Trent Dilfer would be an extremely affordable option (with
Tony Banks) that would allow the Chiefs to get back into cap shape while developing a young QB. Dilfer's numbers are very good. How would the fans take Dilfer? Below is a statistical comparison between Brad Johnson (likely a $7 million dollar a year player) and Trent Dilfer (likely a 2-3 million a year player) over the past 4 seasons. Both have been to the Pro Bowl once:

Brad Johnson: 28-17(.622)
Trent Dilfer: 37-19(.661)
TD% Johnson: 1,499 att 63 TD's
TD% Dilfer: 1,419 att 69 TD's
TD/INT Ratio: Johnson-63TD's, 48 INTS
TD/INT Ration: Dilfer-69 TD's, 59 INTS
Playoff Record: Johnson 1-2 Dilfer 5-1

If Grbac doesn't resign, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dilfer in Red & Gold. The Chiefs would be in better cap shape, have an affordable winning QB, and build through the draft.

I swear I've seen this post somewhere...

hmm.

;)

For the sake of the folks who don't read the other board, I'll just say the thought of Dilfer in Arrowhead in red is not a pleasant one for me, and leave it at that.

I would no longer be a Chief fan if that were to happen...You overlooked the yards issue...He has never thrown for a paltry 3000 yards in a season...Career hi is 2858...He went to the Pro Bowl in a year that he led the 30th ranked offense in the league...Baltimore's offense was horrible...The only reason he played is cause Tony Banks is even worse...Career TD/INT.....82/91....YUK

Definitely a Carl-like move. After all, he can then say, "Look everybody, I've brought you a Super Bowl winning quarterback".

Statistics aside, what has Saunders and Vermiel stated as the most important quality of a QB running their offense? The answer: accuracy. Grbac may not have the accuracy of Warner, but it's not bad. Dilfer's accuracy is bad. It won't even be an issue.

I'm not lobbying for Dilfer, but I am trying to be a realist. If the Chiefs can't afford Elvis, they certainly won't be able to afford Brad Johnson. Realistcally, I doubt that the Chiefs would send their #12 pick overall for either Matt Hasselbeck or Trent Green. So where would that leave the Chiefs? Vermeil has already stated that there will be growing pains, and losing Grbac could be one of them. If the Chiefs don't re-sign Grbac, a one year deal for someone like Dilfer makes sense. Trent Green could be let go for less next year, and other free agent QB's will be available next year as well. That would allow the Chiefs to draft and build the team. It's just a logical way of looking at things (until we know what's going to happen).

I'm sorry, but Trent Dilfer is no option...the only reason he won a SB was because the Ravens had D and a running game...if he were our QB...we would have been 0-16...

so along with HC....I say...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...****ING WAY...:) have a nice day

I posted this topic so that people would again discuss football, not because I am lobbying or believe that Dilfer would be right for the Chiefs. I posted this to promote discussion, not Dilfer.

And believe me, the Chiefs are exploring EVERY option for QB at this point, and I'm sure they are looking at tape of every available Affordable QB, and that does include Dilfer.

If the Chiefs were to acquire Dilfer, which I think is unlikely, I'd be inclined to think he has possibilities. He impressed me two seasons ago in two games (vs. the Chiefs and vs. the Saints) with his ability to deliver the long toss. I started thinking then that he was scorned out of all proportion to what he should be. I wouldn't put much stock in what the people of Tampa Bay think about any football player, especially not a QB.
