Dolphins notebook: Forget Green, consider Carr, harness Hakim

http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/a...een260307.html

Quote:
Is it me, or are the Kansas City Chiefs flat-out insane?

According to published reports, those zany Chiefs have asked the Miami Dolphins to contribute a second-round draft pick as well as another undisclosed selection as compensation for the services of Trent Green.

Granted, maybe Kansas City is banking on the Dolphins' rather illustrious history of overcompensating trades like the one that sent a second-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for NFL lackey A.J. Feeley or the deal that gave two consecutive first-round picks to the New Orleans Saints for Ricky Williams. Heck, even last year's second-round swap for injured quarterback Daunte Culpepper can be construed as a bit of a reach for the organization.

Fortunately for Dolphins fans, there's a new regime in town, and it appears to value draft picks much more than any of its predecessors.

Giving up two picks, including a second-rounder, for a 36-year-old veteran QB with concussion issues would be a huge mistake, one that new head coach Cam Cameron is unlikely to make regardless of his shared history with Trent Green.

Besides, there's a younger and more mobile option available in the free-agent market by the name of David Carr. Sure, Carr is nowhere near as established as his older counterpart, but the 27-year-old has youth and mobility on his side -- two virtues that will pay off well on a Dolphins offense that has multiple holes along its line.

If the Dolphins really want Green in Miami, perhaps all they'll have to do is wait. The Chiefs will be hard-pressed to find a trade partner, especially one that will meet their outlandish demands, and if they can't find one in the next couple of months expect to see Green released during the NFL's second free agency period in June.

Shame on you, GoChiefs, for writing such mean things about Trent.

Concussion issues?? Was there more that I didn't know about?

You make Trent out to be a Steve Bono with a scrambled brain. Trent is twice the QB as Carr-the only thing Carr has proved is that he can take a sack and still get up to throw balls short for Ints.

I know you hate Green but he is still the best QB we have unfortunately.

Yeah, like losing that pick just ahead of the very last pick in the draft is going to be the SB deal breaker.

They tried Joey Harrington last year. He was just two picks behind Carr. Neither have done anything in the NFL.

The pick the Dolphins were offering is an insult. How can you justify offering a low 7th round draft pick for a player of Greens caliber.

BTW, Carr may be an option for the Dolphins QB position but he is also a bargaining chip for the Dolphins to drive the Green price down. We'll see how it unfolds soon enough.

Fans and writers also thought we got hosed in the Green trade we made with St. Louis, but in the end I think we got what DV advertised. Green was much better than nearly all the 1st and 2nd round flops that year and the year after at QB...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

if the Dolphins have leverage because they're offering the last pick in the draft then the Chiefs are cheaper than redrum's mom...

the Chiefs have all the leverage, their future plans don't involve Green so our decision making process can proceed with or without Miami...if Miami wants to wait, fine..but if they want to get a QB and move on then they can pony up something fair...and remember, Detroit is lurking as well...

frankly, I'd rather wait and cut Green then bend over for a late round 7th...have some freaking dignity for christ sake...**** Miami

The Chiefs should sign Carr which would give us a good QBotF prospect and take away the Dolphins bargaining chip that is driving down the value of the Trent Green trade.
