Terdell Sands the rookie defensive tackle says he expects to be back soon. "I am hoping to get out there because I hate sitting on the sidelines." Sands spends most of practice lifting weights with Dan Williams another injured defensive tackle. "I am just trying to get strong, so when I get out there, I won¹t get hurt."

I find it interesting that the Chiefs signed Terdell to a 4yr contract while the other rookies recieved 3yr contracts.

A lot of folks seemed to think there was a good chance that he'd have been a first round calibre pick (eventually) if he had done better academically. I think we made a great move drafting him where we did, because I don't think we'd have gotten him as a URFA - I've heard through the grapevine that a lot of teams were looking at him.

Hard not to have hopes for a 6'7, 340 pound defensive tackle...

It's going to take a couple of years, at least, though and there's no guarantee he'll ever amount to anything.

I agree that Terdell is a great talent, going to Tennessee I figured he would have been a 2nd round prospect, but his fate was sealed with poor academics. I had the pleasure of watching him play in high school once while I lived in the South. He was 270 or 280lbs at the time and had alot of room to gain.

That is correct he was an OL prospect before never going to Tennessee, somewhere along the way he was switched to the DL, sounds like a P.Fulmer move to me.

I wonder if he might not be [i]too[/i] big for his own good, at least in terms of height. Getting leverage can't be easy for a 6'7 guy, especially when he's going against guys who weigh 320 but are 4 or 5 inches shorter than he is and have a center of gravity about 6 inches off the ground (hehe).

I'm interested to see how quick he is on his feet, because that may be a key.

I have wondered that also myself. If he does play too upright then he will have to take steps to lower his center of gravity. What I really want to see him do is use his power and knock the damn center of his feet so he wouldn't have to worry about being upright so much. He will also have to learn to shed of the initial contact with his arms and shoulders without getting stood up while not allowing the center to get underneath him and drive him out of the lane.

This kid has got the physical talent to be a presence in the NFL ... it's the brains that I wonder about. But I think he'll catch on somewhere, if not with KC.

I see his size as a bonus. Granted, getting leverage will be tougher, but the swim move should work well for him. Also, if he can just plug up the middle that would be great ... without penetration all the guy needs to do is put his arms in the air and he can knock down a lot of balls.

As long as he stuffs the middle and occupies at least two linemen so Hicks and Clemmons can crush QBs, I don't care if he's a 340-lb Forrest Gump.

Priority, I don't think he'll be this year's Eric Hicks. He might be 2002 or 2003's Eric Hicks, but I think he's too raw to make an immediate impact, and like Hicks, it will take a couple of years for him to really emerge and make an impact.

Right now I'd be happy with him getting some practice time in...

And I'm telling you folks right now, Downing is better than I/we thought. We may be okay at DT in the not-so-distant future (i.e. not this year, but next, after these guys get a little "seasoning").
