Just wondering if there are any financial gurus out in Chiefs land. I just recently inherited a modest sum of money and with the markets going crazy like they are right now I am not sure what to do with it. I will be seeing a financial adviser, but thought it would be interesting to see what others think.

Throw out your best opinions on what you would do if in my shoes.

This is the best time to buy. Buy low, sell high.

Invest in MUTUAL FUNDS. Don't dick around with individual stocks if you don't know what you're doing.

Remember: investments are for 5years or greater. If you think you'll need access to the funds, put them in a high-yield SAVINGS account. >5 = investment, <5 = savings

Sound advise from my research so far. I plan to be diverse and Mutual Funds will be a slice of the pie.

It's the normal response to anyone asking this to say "buy mutual funds!", etc.. etc..
That's basically saying "put your faith in the market", but right now even the Fed doesn't have faith in the market so for the first time in nearly 20 years that might actually be bad advice.

First, if you have any debt at all pay it off.

Second, put the money in your mattress and wait for things to settle down. That's my advice.

Paying off the plastics are at the top of the list. Vacation will have to wait since I used up most of my ETO dealing with selling the house and settling the estate. Though vacation is on the plan list for next year. A side note, my family consist of just me and my wife - no kids and we are in our mid 40's.
I have a nice 401K and my wife also has a nice retirement set up. I am looking more into investing for the present.
