Larry Wilder Served As City Council, School Board Attorney


LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Jeffersonville City Council attorney has announced he plans to resign from his job after embarrassing photos of him were released last week."I've stood up and accepted when I've done great things. And I've stood up and said when I've done stupid things because men of character do those things," attorney Larry Wilder said.Wilder also said he also will not be renewing his contract with the Greater Clark County School Corporation when his contract expires next month."I have agreed, in my heart, that the best thing to do for this community is to offer my resignation,” said Wilder.His decision came just one week after photos showing Wilder asleep in a neighbor's trash can were released to the media.

Wilder was not charged with a crime, but he admitted he made a mistake."This has become far too much of a distraction,” he said.City spokesman Larry Thomas said, according to the police chief, the officer who took the photos used a department issued camera."At the time that they were taken, the officers didn't know if they were investigating a crime by Mr. Wilder, a crime against Mr. Wilder, an unfortunate circumstance. They had no idea," said Thomas.Thomas said the officer brought the photos back to the police department and uploaded them onto a department computer system. Thomas said, according to the police chief, the officer adhered to policy.What happened after the officer uploaded the photos remains under investigation."He believes that an officer perhaps not investigated with the call to Elk Pointe, transferred at least some of those images onto a CD, DVD, flash drive, whatever, took them out of the department and transmitted them from another location," said Thomas.The question now is: Who released the embarrassing photos and why?

"I would like to think that men of character, men of dignity and men who choose to be respected would choose to do just what I've done, which is accept the ridicule and the embarrassment that I've had to accept,” said Wilder.Thomas said taking the pictures out of the department and releasing them does not violate policy. He said the department policies have not been updated as quickly as technology.Wilder said the council still has to formerly accept his resignation before it takes effect. He said he will continue his private practice.
