Old Faces,New Places

The Boston thread got me to thinking about older classic artists who have in this decade released new projects.I have already submitted Boston's Corporate America in the aforementioned thread and was hoping to compile a list for some of us older fockers who might be interested in seeing what some old faces are up to.

Here's a couple of others

Peter Frampton with Bill Wyman on Cornerstones and covering Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun both from his instrumental project Fingerprints

Steve Winwood performing Dirty City from his latest Nine Lives

Is Cheap Trick considered an "oldie"? I guess so, because they're old. I liked those guys, though.

Also, Mott The Hoople.

I had a Mott the Hoople T-shirt that I wore until it mostly fell apart.

I loved that shirt.

Ian Hunter was almost as cool as Sly Stone.

Okay. Here's one for you wacky bastards. UFO. They are still re-releasing stuff as we speak. And the last stuff they cut in the studio was ... excellent. That was/is one hell of a band. Especially back in the day when they had that crazy German guy playing that crazy guitar that looked like a can opener from space.

I'd actually never heard of them until a few years ago. There's a lot of their stuff on Youtube, Mr. RJ. Old and some new (recorded live in studio). They have to be one of the most underrated, overlooked, and underappreciated bands of all times. It's worth your time searching Youtube for some of their live material from the 60s? 70s? whatever. When the crazy German guy was with them.

Really nice stuff.

I had their Obsession album in high school, great stuff through and through,as I recall one of their members was the brother of a guy in the Scorpions.

All this talk of Euro bands and weird guitars makes me think of this...

I think that was the German guy I'm talking about, Mr. Nzoner!!

I think he had a brother who was already in a band and his little brother (the German guy) sort of followed in his footsteps and, as it turned out, actually became the better guitarist. The guy could shred.

If you haven't seen the more recent "live in the studio" stuff I'm referring to, you should really try and find it. Awesome work. I know I saw it on Youtube someplace. It's probably several years old by now, but well worth the time to find.

I had listened to the old version of "Love To Love" a few minutes ago just digging around youtube for UFO songs. The new studio version is like a completely different song.

Very cool to see old guys just jam.

I assume you guys already know about the supergroup Chickenfoot that just put out an album and launched a tour. Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. They're playing the Uptown here in KC sometime later this summer.

Yep. I don't know why, but this is my kind of music. I even like the older, raw, rough, immature material. Maybe it's just the loud guitar ... I don't know ... but, whatever it is, it's my kind of juice.

Do you happen to have a link to the old version of "Love To Love", Mr. cdcox?
