Three Round 2010 Draft Mock

General predictions based on who I think is coming out versus those staying in (in terms of underclassmen). Will have a complete view on the 15th, which is the final day that they have to declare for the draft.

Round One

1. St. Louis Rams: Jimmy Clausen, QB; Notre Dame
- They got their offensive tackle last year and the two previous years they selected defensive line in the first round. Steve Jackson went to the Pro Bowl by himself, and if they don’t get him immediate QB help, he’ll be the next Jamaal Lewis/Larry Johnson.

2. Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh, DL; Nebraska
- Their defensive line play was atrocious. While they could use offensive line help, it wasn’t as bad as the defense. Suh is the obvious choice.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy, DL; Oklahoma
- Some might think that not getting Suh is a big deal, but McCoy might have been the top pick in the ’09 draft if he declared last year. Like Suh, he’s an athletic, instinctive DT that can do it all. If this is the Suh consolation prize, it’s a pretty damn good one.

4. Washington Redskins: Sam Bradford, QB; Oklahoma
- Clinton Portis has come out right after the season ended and said Campbell isn’t a leader in the locker room or huddle. Shanahan is in as head coach and will be in full re-build mode. Bradford is accurate, smart, and athletic. This is a draft match made in heaven.

5. Kansas City Chiefs: Eric Berry, SS; Tennessee
- Arguably the best player in the draft and a once in a generation level guy at his position. Chiefs catch a huge break at a position of need/desperation.

6. Seattle Seahawks: Russell Okung, OT; Oklahoma State
- The Seahawks will wait until next year to draft their QB (Lockler), but get his future blind side protector into the system this year.

7. Cleveland Browns: Cameron Heyward, DE; Ohio State
- Browns go for the local boy who is also the best five-technique player in this draft. Bronco brass weeps.

8. Oakland Raiders: Rolando McClain, LB; Alabama
- The rare epiphany moment in the draft for Al Davis as he selects not only an insanely athletic and fast player, but one that’s actually really, really good. Bronco brass slinks into a corner, curls into a fetal position and starts to moan and sob uncontrollably.

9. Buffalo Bills: Anthony Davis, OT; Rutgers
- Bills get the massive Davis to fill the void left by Peters departure.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Tim Tebow, QB; Florida
- Seems like a hokey pick because people think that he’s only being taken here for ticket sales. That ain’t the case. Tebow is big, smart, a class act and a natural born leader. He’s fantastic running the ball (no need for wildcat junk formations here), and if you happened to watch the Florida/Cincinatti game, you now realize he’s got a cannon for an arm that’s pretty damn accurate. They picked up bookend tackles last year in Monroe and Britton, have a great running back in Drew, and Tebow has the potential to be the next Steve Young.

11. Denver Broncos: Dez Bryant, WR; Oklahoma State
- Marshall will most likely not be back. And that might not necessarily be a bad thing for the Doncs. Bryant is brimming with as much talent and potential. Joe Haden is a possibility here as well.

12. Miami Dolphins: Jerry Hughes, OLB; TCU
- When your outside linebackers are Jason Taylor and Joey Porter, you’ve got to look long and hard at getting quality behind them and soon. Hughes is a beast with a non-stop motor.

13. San Francisco 49ers: Bruce Campbell, OT; Maryland
- There are a lot of tools for Alex Smith to work with on offense, he just needs the time to get the ball to them. Campbell is a bit raw, but he’s prototype for the position.

14. Seattle Seahawks: CJ Spiller, RB; Clemson
- I don’t think anyone believes that Julius Jones is really the long term answer in Seattle, and with the recent big yardage success of scat backs like Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles, it move Spiller up in the draft.

15. New York Giants: Damien Williams, WR; USC
- Gives Manning a legit #1 level receiver to stretch the field and make those big time catches.

16. Tennessee Titans: Brian Price, DT; UCLA
- The best pure 4-3 uptackle in this draft. Price was the Children of the Corn in ’09, ‘cause he was killing everybody.

17. San Francisco 49ers: Taylor Mays, S; USC
- A great potential pick here for the Niners in that a freak like Mays playing behind a solid, instinctive force like Pat Willis could be a lethal defensive combination.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Joe Haden, CB; Florida
- The steal of the draft at this point. Haden is a pure shut down corner that teams in the SEC avoided for the whole year.

19. Atlanta Falcons: Sean Weatherspoon, OLB; Missouri
- Perhaps the premier 4-3 OLB in the draft. A do-it-all machine for MU, and with Mike Peterson at 33, he’ll be a welcome addition.

20. Houston Texans: Jermaine Gresham, TE; Oklahoma
- They’ve got a great young defense, but need another playmaker on offense besides Johnson. Gresham gives them that along with being a safety valve for Schaub. A potential amazing combination of downfield destruction.

21. New York Jets: Brian Bulaga, OT; Iowa
- Will give Woody a run for the RT position the minute he’s drafted.

22. Baltimore Ravens: Brandon Spikes, MLB; Florida
- The loss of Bart Scott was pretty big and Spikes is a bigger hitter that has excellent instincts. Will fit right in next to Ray-Ray, and would be the successor to patrolling the middle for the Ravens.

23. Arizona Cardinals: Terrance Cody, NT; Alabama
- The Cardinals don’t have many needs, but a massive nose tackle for their 3-4 is one of them and they don’t come any more massive than Terrance “Mount” Cody.

24. Green Bay Packers: Ciron Black, OT; LSU
- Green Bay doesn’t really have the luxury of picking up a “project” for their offensive line as Rogers was the most sacked QB in the NFL in ’09. Black is a four-year starter at LSU at LT and has gone against high level competition in the SEC. He’ll be able to play either tackle or guard spot on the line and be productive from day one. He's a lot more athletic than his massive size would suggest.

25. Cincinnati Bengals: Brandon LaFell, WR; LSU
- With the untimely and unexpected death of Chris Henry, there is a need for depth at the wide receiver position. LaFell is a big target with good hands that can find the end zone.

26. New England Patriots: Jared Odrick, DL; Penn State
- With the trade of Seymour, a presence at the RDE position is of utmost importance. Odrick can bring it in a lot of ways and he’s got a fierce attitude and high motor.

27. Philadelphia Eagles: Derrick Morgan, DE; Georgia Tech
- Will be able to bring the heat off the edge with his talented pass rush skills.

28. Dallas Cowboys: Earl Thomas, S; Texas
- Redshirt sophomore had a stellar season and Cowboys don’t need a lot, but the safety position could use help.

29. Minnesota Vikings: Dan Williams, DT; Tennessee
- Pat Williams wore down as the season progress and another Williams brother could/would help. Dan had a excellent ’09 season and showed power and agility.

30. San Diego Chargers: Trent Williams, OT; Oklahoma
- Would fill a void on the right side of the Chargers offensive line.

31. New Orleans Saints: Donovan Warren, CB; Michigan
- Saints need play makers at the corner positions, and Warren has excellent speed and length.

32. Indianapolis Colts: Travis Lewis, LB; Oklahoma
- If anything, the Colts could use talent at linebacker, and they always seem to get guys who should have gone a lot higher in the draft then they did. Lewis is that guy. An athletic freak of nature.


Round Two

33. St. Louis Rams: Golden Tate, WR; Notre Dame
- New quarterback needs someone to throw to, and Tate is the best available.

34. Detroit Lions: Mike Iupati, OL; Idaho
- Detroit went BPA with Suh, now they need to protect their QB investment in Stafford.

35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jason Fox, OT; Miami
- Bucs could stand an upgrade at either tackle spot.

36. Kansas City Chiefs: Sergio Kindle, OLB; Texas
- Zero depth at OLB for the Chiefs, and Vrabel isn’t getting any younger.

37. Washington Redskins: Charles Brown, OT; USC
- Fits the Shanahan mold of smaller, more nimble lineman able to dive into defensive players knees faster than bigger guys.

38. Cleveland Browns: Ras-I Dowling, CB; Virginia
- First round talent falls to a team that desparate needs help in the secondary.

39. Oakland Raiders: Everson Griffin, DE; USC
- The Crypt Keeper, fraught with pangs of doubt and remorse due to the past two years of draft debaucles, has yet another solid pick. Perhaps he died and they just propped him in the War Room a la Weekend at Bernies and his kid Mark and Cable are finally able to have a decent draft.

40. Seattle Seahawks: Colt McCoy, QB; Texas
- He’s much better than most people in the “mock” business lead us to believe and gives the Seahawks the heir apparent to the Hasselbeck QB throne.

41. Buffalo Bills: Greg Hardy, DE; Ole Miss
- Aaron Schobel is coming into the twilight of his career, so the Bills look for his replacement in Hardy.

42. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Carlos Dunlap, DE; Florida
- Drops out of the first round due to a DUI and less than stellar play this past season. Has all the intangibles to absolutely dominate. Boom or bust that Tampa Bay rolls the dice on with their second pick in this round.

43. Miami Dolphins: Darrell Stuckey, SS, Kansas
- The Fins need deep help and Stuckey is instinctive and fundamentally sound.

44. New England Patriots: Von Miller, DE/OLB; Texas A&M
- Vrabel and Bruschi out – the Pats need a pass rush bad, so they go for the Aggie sack machine.

45. Denver Broncos: Arthur Jones, DE/DT; Syracuse
- Might have been a first rounder but got hurt near the end of the season. A very solid five technique 3-4 end and the Doncos are desperate for one.

46. New York Giants: Myron Lewis, S; Vanderbilt
- A position of need for the Giants and Lewis can play equally effective against the run and deep ball.

47. New England Patriots: Eric Decker, WR; Minnesota
- Now that Welker went down, the lack of depth at the wideout spot in New England is tragically apparent, and Moss isn’t a spring chicken anymore. Decker gives the Pats a cross between the two.

48. Carolina Panthers: Marshawn Gilyard, WR; Cincinnati
- Mushin Muhammad will be 37 at the start of next season, and while that’s pretty young in the scope of life these days, it’s frickin’ Methuselah by NFL terms.

49. San Francisco 49ers: Ricky Sapp, OLB/DE; Clemson
- Solid in the middle, but weak on the outside, the Niners could use a pass rush specialist.

50. Kansas City Chiefs: Maurkice Pouncey, C; Florida
- A dominant season in the middle of the Gators offensive line led to a first team Walter Camp award.

51. Houston Texans: Kyle Wilson, CB; Boise State
- Electric returner and solid cover corner. Wilson is a main reason why the Broncos went undefeated this past season and beat TCU in the BCS.

52. Pittsburgh Steelers: Reshad Jones, S; Georgia
- Insurance policy for the increasingly injured Polamalu.

53. Baltimore Ravens: Trevard Lindley, CB; Kentucky
- Not a lot of holes on the Ravens, but no one is going to convince me that Dominique Foxworth is a top flight NFL corner.

54. New York Jets: Eric Norwood, OLB/DE; South Carolina
- The Vernon Gholston experiment is officially over. He can go start preparing for the Mr. Olympia contest as the Jets pick up Norwood, who is an absolute terror.

55. Arizona Cardinals: Matt Tennant, C; Boston College
- Having a stud like Tennant call the line would be a major improvement for the Cards.

56. Green Bay Packers: Tyson Alualu, DE; California
- Capable of pressuring the quarterback from the 3-4 end position. Had a very good senior season.

57. New England Patriots: Jahvid Best, RB; California
- The severity of the concussion drops him in the draft, but he is a Round 1 talent.

58. Cincinnati Bengals: Jonathan Dwyer, RB; Georgia Tech
- They couldn’t tell that Larry was toast as a Chief? Seriously?

59. Dallas Cowboys: Javier Arenas, CB; Alabama
- Depth at corner and allows Felix Jones to get out of the kick return business.

60. Philadelphia Eagles: Navorro Bowman, LB; Penn State
- Talented 4-3 linebacker falls because of some off-the-field problems.

61. Minnesota Vikings: Jevan Snead, QB; Ole Miss
- A cannon armed quarterback from Mississippi. Sounds familiar? Minnesota takes a chance on him hoping the year or two of hanging around the Silver Fox gives him the needed mentoring.

62. San Diego Chargers: Ryan Matthews, RB; Fresno State
- Tomlinson’s engine seems to be running out of steam, so the Chargers draft a guy who’s nearly identical to him in size and running style.

63. New Orleans Saints: Greg Romeus, DE; Pittsburgh
- Gives the Saints depth and talent at the DE spot, especially considering that starting DE Charles Grant ended the season 31 years old and on IR.

64. Indianapolis Colts: Lamarr Houston, DT; Texas
- Had a superb ’09 season.


Round Three

I'll take that as a compliment Hamas. Anyone who thinks Taylor Mays is going to be a good safety in the pros obviously knows a thing or two about comedy.

And yes, I think Tebow has a strong arm. It's not Elway or Favre level, but there ain't many who can make that claim and still maintain some degree of accuracy. He's made numerous throws over the course of his college career that qualify as such. He doesn't have the most perfect method of delivery, but neither does Phil Rivers (who has the worst throwing mechanics in the pros right now) and he seems to do fine. I know that there are some "pro system" purists around here that think that anyone who didn't go to USC isn't qualified to be drafted as a quarterback, but I think Tebow is going to be just fine in the pros.

Alexander has been injured too much through his career to actually be that high of a pick IMO. He has the talent but i would say 5-6 just because of the injuries. Then there is the whole spread WR thing also.
