Credit Reports
I really don't know much about the different places to get your credit scores checked, I know of: Free Credit Score.com, Equifax etc etc. My dad pays $14 a month for memebership with Free Credit Score, and to be honest I don't want to pay a monthly fee, can anyone recommend a good website or place?

You are entitled to 1 free report per year from the big 3 credit agencies. This website acts as a portal to do that. You should NOT pay to get your credit report.

I have used this site with success. It is easy and it is free.

I went thru http://experian.experiandirect.com/ recently when making a major purchase and they too managed to sign me up for at $14.99 'credit monitor' that was worthless.

To top it off you can't cancel the service thru the web page. You need to call some India or South American call center, give them your credit card number and social security number and they'll get it cancelled for you.

I cancelled the credit card and vowed to never use them again.

Don't know who to tell you to go through, just avoid that particular website like the plaque.

If you want the score you have to pay no matter what. My recommendation would be to use annualcreditreport.com and pay the $5 for each (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) whatever your middle of the 3 scores is will be the score lenders use.

That or do what Chet said and just apply. Tell them prior to pulling your credit that you want a copy of the credit report.

Their prices are pretty low, without having to sign up for stupid garbage. Yes, they also have their own monthly programs and "free score" offers that aren't really free too, but just ignore that and go directly to the products.

Its just here's the price, and for that very reasonable price you can get your report and score from one vendor. You can pay for a report from one of the vendors at myfico.com, go away for a year and a half and not get harassed or pay any more money except maybe an e-mail each year to remind you they exist, and come back to buy reports and scores from two vendors at myfico.com, etc.

No, this isn't a paid endorsement for myfico.com, I'm just very satisfied with my experience with them. As an added bonus, they also have a very large and active credit-related message board.

Question ... I was told that only 1 of the 3 provided you with a free credit score with your free annual credit report. Does anyone know which one does that?

And, here's a tip - if you really want to track your report regularly and for free, just pull 1 every 4 months and rotate it between the 3. That will give you a free view 3 times a year. Just remember the order you pull them.
