I expect young and Guthrie to be a bit pumped this week knowing somebody is going to be an odd man out. I'd like to see a perfect game out of Young. Then wtf do you do?

That would be ideal for me, because I believe Young's freakishly tall frame gives him a deception advantage over Guthrie. I think Young is our best #5, and maybe Guthrie can be more effective in relief when he can just go all-out in one inning.

Young has surpassed his expectations as well as Edy, and so has Moose (going from .220 avg to Tony ****ing Gwynn) and Hosmer has been above average all year, tack on RBI factory Kendrys Morales onto our already flourishing offense, who I forgot to mention Cain, who is hitting moderately high power combined with a high avg, combined with his speed and defense. Terminator bullpen. Ace Ventura, Duffman, Edy McEdy, consistently inconsistent JGuts , and a certain Reds pitcher I forgot his name. Playoff baseball is a certainty. Embrace!

I feel the same way but Ive changed my tune. These next couple of months do not matter. Its a matter of staying healthy. Guthrie does eat innings. Hes one of the worst pitchers in the AL but he eats innings. Id rather have him go 5 ERA, giving Young rest when we really might need later. I hope we dont have to rely on anyone other than Cueto, Volquez, Duffy/Ventura in the playoffs but Id rather have a fresh Young than Guthrie. If Guthrie has one of the 1 out of 4 starts when he just doesnt have it, you just dont win. When he gets shelled, he gets shelled. If we have to play at Minute Maid or Yankee Stadium, call me crazy but if the scenario was right & Cueto/Volquez/Duffy was not available Id even advocate pitching by commitee using primarily our power pitching bullpen. Neither Young or Guthrie on paper would be very effective at those parks, against those teams.

I loved this video as a kid. This one and "I've Got My Mind Set On You" by George Harrison were huge hits with me and my brother when they came on MTV.

Guthrie needs to be the 5th starter because you can actually count on him to go 7 innings.

What we need in October is a fresh bullpen, rested Salvador Perez & a healthy Alex Gordon.
