Tonneau Covers

Looking for a new Tonneau cover for my truck. What works best, roll up or tri-fold. Where is a good place to buy one? I have never bought one, but I do know I want it lock with the tailgate.

I had one on my old pick-up. It was retractable and I liked it much better than the tri-fold the girlfriend had. It came with the rig so I can't give advice on price. You could leave it open/closed as much as you want and stored completely out of the way when I loaded the slide in camper.

Plus, it locked. This is pretty similar to my old one.

I have a Pace Edwards Jackrabbit (retractable) on mine, and it works great. I don't have any experience with a tri-fold, but I wouldn't be opposed to one.

Either way, find someone reputable for the sale and and install.

I used to have one of these. The locking aspect was nice and it worked pretty well. The cons are the lock was not very high quality and it would stick sometimes making it tricky to get into the truck bed. It wouldn't always retract all the way and you'd have to give it a few tries. During summer you had to have gloves to operate the locking latch because it was effing hot. All of the cons aside it was a decent solution to having a secure way to keep stuff in the bed if the truck. Just a few things to consider.

My new truck came with a tri fold, only had it a couple weeks but the few times I've used it so far I've liked it. I wouldn't be interested in a rollup myself but that rigid one that was posted looks cool.

I have had 2 Access roll up covers. They roll up and have straps so they dont unroll. High quality. Easy to use. Always stretch-winter or summer. One I put on my self. They other was done by a dealer.

I used to WD-40 the lock and slides every spring and fall and never had trouble. I don'y know if that's why I never had trouble or if it was a better brand, though.

This is the one I have, and it works great. It's pretty indestructible. My buddy has a tri-fold and as it has gotten older, the rubber over the hinges as weathered away and it leaks now. I do not have that problem with mine. Down here in SWMO, you can get this one and installed for around $600.

Is this one on hinges? I am really curious about that style. Seems to me you lose functionality of a truck to have that style.

Where did you have yours installed? I live in Branson

I agree. One thing I have learned over life, is pay for quality. If you go cheap, you spend 3x replacing it.

The Tri-Folds are the easiest and most versatile. It 'locks' to the extent that you can't open it if you have the tailgate up and as a hard-top it's not something you can just cut open. I think they're easier and more attractive than the retractable hard covers (I think those are pretty much butt-ugly, honestly).

The 'truxedo' style roll-up covers are the most weatherproof.

I went with the tri-fold and after a recall when they decided that the exterior seals were just too short to work correctly and replaced them with wider flaps, it's been good but not something that keeps things so dry that I'd be comfortable putting photos or electronics back there in the rain. It's fast as hell to open and I like that I can leave just a panel or two open if something is sticking up somewhere.

But if you're looking for the most weatherproof, the truxedo is the way to go. It will come at the cost of some ease and security (as you can just slice right through them) and I don't imagine they'd last as long as the tri-folds.

If you need to haul something very big, they remove very quickly. They are attached at the front of the truck with a bracket and carter pins. It's been a few years, but I got mine at A & R Sales in Washburn, Mo. You might also try Sportsland in Rogersville.
