Let's Rank Our Top 3 Regular Season Games

Hey, ya'll. I'm proctoring students taking tests remotely today and it's about as exhilarating as it sounds. During my lunch break I saw a tweet from Chiefs posting the "Sights and Sounds" from the Chiefs win against the Vikings this year. When I watched this, I realized I forgot just how good of a game this was. Not only that, we were starting Matt Moore, expectations before the game were low, and little did we know, but the game would be the difference between a first round bye and a WC matchup against the Titans (Likely making our road Titans, @Patriots, @Ravens).

This game was stellar. Matt Moore was ****ing nails and his two deepballs to Tyreek were beyond anything we could have expected from back-up QB (and a high school coach at the beginning of the season). Damien Williams pulled off his most impressive run in a Chiefs uniform (an 85 yard run where he put a disgusting juke on a Vikings defender to hit paydirt), though, it's mostly remembered for Tyreek catching him like an Olympian. That run completely shifted the momentum in the game. The Chiefs D also came up with two critical 4th quarter stops (a prelude to the SB) and Buttkicker hit a 54 yarder like Stoyo once did in what was considered one of the best Chiefs wins of all time (before Mahomes) and hit a game winning 44 yarder at the end. Watching this again made me realize that I'd forgotten some of our amazing regular season wins this year and made me want to re-evaluate them.

So... what are your top 3 regular season wins this year (I included the losses in the poll. As some argue losing to the Titans was one of the best things we could have done this year because otherwise, Seattle claims Suggs over us and we may not win the SB without him).

Mine:

3. Week 14 @Patriots 23-16 W (God, did it feel good to finally get that off our backs)
Spoiler!

2. Week 9 Vikings 26-23 W (I just can't put a game without Mahomes as the top regular season game - with that said, Matt Moore is an unsung hero of the season)
Spoiler!

1. Week 3 Ravens 33-28 W (This win cemented the Chiefs as the top team in the AFC and puts Mahomes, Reid and the Chiefs as the presumptive AFC favorites over Lamar, Harbaugh and Baltimore imho).
Spoiler!

I picked the Raiders blow out and the two Denver dominations. Why? Because **** them, that's why.

I still say the Vikings game was one of the most impressive wins of the Reid era. Right near the top.

For a coach that's often criticized for clock management and playing it safe in tight spots, he coached like a ****ing maestro in that game. This game may have been the difference in a Super Bowl Championship and a late exit in the playoffs.**

** FTR, we're a better team than The Ravens and 49ers, but that week of rest is so critical.

In some ways, Gruden and Fangio opting for those 3rd quarter field goals was even more embarrassing than being shut-out. Their win probability went down with those field goals and both coaches hinted that preventing a shut-out was on their mind there. Mahomes win in the snow reminded me of the highlights I watched of Marcus Allen running over Denver in mile high.

Kind of an underrated play in that Vikings game was a play just before the spike. Tyreek catches it short across the middle at the 36 yard line. His back was to the defense in an awkward position. He had no right advancing that ball beyond maybe the 33 yard line or so, but he worked some magic and just sort of squirted upfield for an extra 10 yards, setting up a manageable game-winning field goal.

The wins against the Vikings, Patriots and Ravens were all great for different reasons, but I'll throw the week 1 win over the Jags in there too.

It was an enjoyable shitstomping. Mahomes hurt his ankle and we ended up losing Tyreek for an extended period of time, but our offense ****ing rolled that game. Any concerns about not being able to recapture that offensive magic from the previous year went right out the window. At one point I turned to my girlfriend and said "This is the best offense I've ever seen".

@ Broncos - Winning when Pat got Hurt
vs Vikings - Winning without Pat
@ Patriots - Important game slay the dragon.

The First DEN game, because it was legendary. We go into that game having lost two in a row, the CP doom and gloom club has been rolling full-tilt about how we can't beat the Broncos because we can't stop Lindsey/Freeman and their the running game, Flacco is going to pick apart our secondary, blah blah blah. Then Pat gets hurt in the first quarter and literally 90% of CP spontaneously shits their panties. "Season over!" "Andy's an idiot!" "All is lost!" "Our tampons are overflowing with angst and bitterness because 'Chiefs!'"

Except our defense has its first good game of the season. Clark goes off. Ragland and Hitchens and Ogbah and Okafor go off. Posted 8 sacks. Stopped the Lindsey train in its tracks. Held that DEN offense everyone was so scared of to SIX POINTS. 6.

Then our HS school teacher, Matt "Midnight hour" Moore comes in and torches them. We not only win, but absolutely stomp them, 30-6.

The Vikings game for many of the same reasons listed above. "Dalvin Cook is the best RB in the game; MIN has the best running attack in the NFL (they did at the time); our 32nd-ranked defense will never able able to stop him!" Except we did, our "terrible run defense" put a strangle-hold on that running attack and our defense as a whole played one of its best games of the season. And then Moore held his own again and then we beat them off Butkicker's tremendous last second FG. Classic win for the ages.

The Patriots game, because we finally climbed that mountain and beat the Patsies fair and square. In their house. The most satisfying win of the regular season and the moment that I knew we were going to the SB.

So many have it so wrong.

I chose Vikings, Titans (loss), and week 17 home win vs. Chargers.

- Matt Moore coming in and doing enough to get a win against a tough opponent after a bit of a skid with previous losses to the Colts, Texans and Packers likely sparked some belief in the locker room that the team could hold down the fort in Mahomes’ absence. The team showed a lot of guts late in the game to pull out that win, and Butker was nails.

- I selected the Titans loss, because I believe it was the best thing to happen to this Chiefs team ahead of their glorious playoff run. Turnover in the running game, special-teams gaffes, and not the best situational football had fans screaming after the game and we witnessed a visibly disappointed team that knew they let one get away. Mike Pennel got re-inserted into the lineup the following week, and the Chiefs defence went on a run of playing some of their best football in recent memory which buffered against any lapses the offence would experience from time to time in games.

- I was at the last regular season game at Arrowhead against the Chargers, and even though a playoff spot had been salted away, many felt that the chance of a first round bye was slim to none. Damien Williams had himself a game and the Chargers put up a fight and hung around most of the game, but nothing can replicate the organic reactions to scoreboard watching in the stands and hoping for a Miami miracle, and lo and behold as the Chiefs took the lead going away late in the game, the news of Miami pulling ahead with seconds left in their game had people have a reaction that was so joyful, and when the first round bye came to fruition it was almost as if people knew destiny was arriving to the franchise....

The Jags game jumps out for me, too. They came in and the belief was that they were a pretty strong team at that point. They tried to bully the Chiefs and the Chiefs were having none of it. After that win, I nodded and knew that we were picking up where we left off, and the previous season wasn't a fluke.

Another game that jumps out is the final San Diangeles Chargers game. It wasn't expected to make a difference, but the Chiefs went out there and just pounded the Chargers down. Damien Williams had a couple of great runs, and then it was completely enjoyable as the outcome of the Dolphins game began to unfold.

Patriots-because **** the Patriots. Watching their fans boo them was hilarious. Also great to see a clutch defensive play win it after those two abominations the defense allowed last year against them.

Vikings-probably save our Super Bowl hopes. A great team win. Tyreek had a big game. Chris Jones was back.

Chargers-The combo of us winning and the Patriots losing was one of the best moments of my life as a Chiefs fan. Kevin Harlan was sensational on the call.

It wasn't the most impactful game of the year, but the Broncos game at Arrowhead was fun. I'm a sucker for snow games, and it was nice to see us come out and just dominate the entire time.
