Story time...

So we just watched Marsh give up a homer on his first pitch...

Back in 1987, my family and I went on vacation, and along the way, stopped in Cincinnati for a couple of Reds games. My father briefly coached MLBer Ted Power back his American Legion days, and Ted graciously got us tix for a couple of games, including one when Power was starting.

So it's a Reds/Pirates matchup, and both teams are kinda "rising" in the ranks with very good young players. Fun teams to watch at that time. Ted is starting the game, and first pitch: BOOM, leadoff homer to deep center field. That hitter? Barry Bonds.

Reds ended up winning the game, but the photo in the following day's newspaper was priceless. Big photo of Ted looking awfully sheepish with his hands on his hips looking off in the distance as the ball sails over the fence... I'll never forget it.

Anyway, back to the game. Yay Maikel. LFG!
