I edited it before you commented. He's here with me and corrected me. I gave him too much credit. His scholarship offers weren't for football. They were for track.

I truly believe that MAYBE 2 or 3 CP'ers had 4.5 speed at one point or better... but being the realistic adult that I am I'm thinking a lot of the crowd over-exaggerates and "misremembers" |

As for my brother, he ran a 10.99 100 yard dash in high school. That is stupid fast. He played football his freshman and sophomore year, but not past that. He became really focused on his wrestling/track career...I wish he'd stuck with football though.

Would need a calender watch to time me now days. I am sure if I was 30 years younger and trained with the best pro trainers on the planet for a year, I could work myself all the way up to unacceptable times. Maybe get lucky and hit 5.0 if I had a good tail wind and was running down hill.

Ryan Swope ran a 4.34 no? I know this was from last year BTW. I would be willing to bet that although there is a bunch of total BS in this thread, that there is a white kid in every 5A school in Texas that can run a 4.59 or better. That doesn't mean that they are any good at football. |

I'm not saying white people can't run fast...I'm saying 4.5 is RIDICULOUSLY FAST and I have a hard time believing that more than a couple of members on this board ever ran a 4.5. So when I was reading posters talk about being 240 lbs and running 4.7's (Tim Tebow build) I had to lol. one poster said he ran like a 4.25 that's world class speed hard time believing you can have world class speed and not parlay it into a free education and some track accolades one poster told me he was a south paw that threw 90 MPH in high school I'm sure there was some truth to some of the posts but I'm also sure there was a whole lot more bullshit |

IN CONCLUSION:
Just because your high school football coach told you you were running a 4.4 doesn't mean you were actually running a 4.4. Watching the combine and seeing guys like Jamaal Charles run a 4.36 should be a pretty strong indication you were never that fast. and if you were, you were in the top .05% so congratulations on your blazing fast speed |

Yeah I ran the 40 a few times before but unfortunately I was in the 100 yard dash and that's the point where I quit running.

I don't think high school kids running 4.5s is that crazy. No one is claiming that they ran a 4.5 on electric timing under media scrutiny, and it is reasonable to think that a person could have a hand-timed 4.5 without being a college level athlete.
For instance, I'm a pretty young guy. I'm pretty athletic, but I never played football in high school (XC instead). I did spend a lot of time in the weight room though, and I was decent at a lot of lifts. Here are my progressions: Freshman/Sophomore/Junior/Senior Height: 6'0/6'1/6'1.5/6'2.5 Weight: 125/155/175/185 Bench: X/150/195/240 Squat: X/215/295/345 Incline: X/135/175/205 Clean: X/145/185/215 40 yd: 4.95/4.85/4.63/4.58 Vert: X/29/31/33 Now, it is important to understand that these were my absolute best numbers. I couldn't walk up to the bench and press 240 any day of the week, and I DEFINITELY couldn't sprint a 4.55 fourty whenever. I usually maxed out at about 225 bench and 315 squat, and my average 40 was in the 4.6 range. I ran that 4.55 once in my life, on a day with perfect conditions (using track spikes on a really good track). So when you ask a question like "What is your 40yd time," you should expect pretty high results. These people are going to be posting their best ever times, and probably have ran hundreds of times to get that result. They also are using hand-timed results, which means that their best times probably have some level of human error. Whereas for professional athletes, they don't get to handpick their best times. They have only a couple electronically timed run to show how fast they are. If you look at my progression, you'd think I was some type of athletic freak, but in reality I'm just a pretty athletic guy that happened to peak a fair bit higher than my averages. On a normal day, I'd be in the 220 bench/310 squat/185 incline/185 clean/4.65 fourty/30" vert range. Basically, you are comparing the average results of professionals with the absolute best results of amateurs. And those amateur results have a lot more inaccuracy, even if the people are entirely honest. |
