James Richard Clausen: Calling CP GMs

Let's break down his game as if we have him on tape telling fans, presumably, to "shut the **** up."

We need a legit QB. This much is clear. If he's available when the Chiefs pick in round 1, do you pull the trigger?

No bullshit responses like, "Pioli won't do it."

He traded for Cassel--this move speaks for his level of competency. You're in charge. What do you do?

You saw it, now think, and tell me who out of this upcoming class is more of a finished product than Freeman was last year.

This should be funny.

I think Clausen is a guy with more polish than Freeman, but who possesses less upside.

I would select the Pickle in round 1 simply b/c I think he can be a franchise QB. Yes, it would mean passing on a special prospect in guy like Berry, but teams can find really talented safeties in rounds 2-7.

As we all know, high-quality QBs are far harder to find.

Well, we definitely agree on the upside issue - not so much on the polish issue.

I don't see it. But I've been wrong before, and will be wrong again.

We'll see. But I thought Freeman was very, very raw. More so than Flacco, whom Freeman was often compared to.

Keep in mind, this is coming from someone that wanted no part of Freeman.

I'm just not a fan of this class, which is why doing this LAST year made more sense.

I'll admit, I've seen very little of Locker this year, so I guess my mind could be changed after seeing more of him.

I just can't put my finger on what I dislike about Claussen.

Understandable. And I can respect our disagreement on this issue.

I will admit that I'm a huge fan of Gabbert's potential if he comes out next year, and I will be fully driving that bandwagon come this time in '10.

Spread by damned. I'm blinded by the kid's gifts and upside.

I think Clausen would be a good fit, given the fact ND's line couldn't block for him. JIMMY is well experienced running for his life on every pass play, which will fit in with the offensive philosophy here.

Agree 100% on Gabbert.

I think he'll make the transition to a pro-style offense rather easily.

Clausen - pretty accurate, not great arm strength, good feet, a bit of an odd delivery (holds ball a little low, maybe some sidearm to the throw), good leadership, decision making is a little questionable, but so was Ryan at that point in his career.

I'd agree with that assessment, and I wasn't a huge fan of Ryan's, either.

Like I said, I've been wrong before, and I'll be wrong again.

Personally, I don't think it matters, because Pioli isn't going to admit his mistake by using a Top 5 pick on a QB - IMO.

I'm a ND homer and I dont really like Clausen as a 1st rounder. Thats where he'll go due to the lack of quality QBs in the NFL, but there is NO ****ING WAY the Chiefs draft a QB in the 1st round. I'd bet any amount of money

I could tell Ryan was gonna be a stud coming out. All you had to do was watch a BC game to realize that he owned that team

As much as I'd like to see Clausen in a Chiefs jersey.....I don't think we have the ability to take him this year. The trade for Cassel didn't really set us back.....signing him to a $63 million dollar deal did. So now we're basically stuck in limbo with him for the next 2-3 years.

So you fill the holes on the rest of your team in next years draft. Berry needs to be our 1st round pick...if he's there. Like I said in another thread....if Berry, Mays and Suh are gone before our pick.....you take Clausen and sit him for a year. Let Cassel take a beating and build the team for Clausen.
