James Richard Clausen: Calling CP GMs

Let's break down his game as if we have him on tape telling fans, presumably, to "shut the **** up."

We need a legit QB. This much is clear. If he's available when the Chiefs pick in round 1, do you pull the trigger?

No bullshit responses like, "Pioli won't do it."

He traded for Cassel--this move speaks for his level of competency. You're in charge. What do you do?

Better to trade down for draft picks for someone else that wants Clausen. The Cassel experiment is not over. Better to have a playmaker filling a known void.

Right now this franchise is a death trap for any QB. If you're going to draft a QB high, you better:
A) Hire a dedicated QB coach who is competent
B) Hire a dedicated OC who is competent
C) Get some freakin' capable blockers in place
D) Get some freakin' receivers who can catch

Personally, we're such a bad football TEAM right now I'd spend more time getting all the other pieces in place before spending a first rounder on a QB. The only way I would spend a top pick on a QB right now is if the guy was can't miss. I don't particularly see that this year.

And I think if Pioli was looking for a guy who was going to develop his QB, he ended up hiring the wrong coach. They go into the offseason with Chan Gailey, a former QB and seasoned OC, as the QB coach and OC. They end up with Haley doing it all while changing the playbook and admitting he doesn't have much time to do it all. That sure as hell isn't the type of environment I'd want to toss a rookie into.

If Haley goes, I won't shed any tears...

I am very much against drafting a QB in the first round this year. I'm not saying Cassel is the guy, but you have to give him a line and something to work w/ before you completely throw him under the bus. Trent Green was at least his bad his first year in KC.

I agree with the posters who have said that none of the QBs mentioned in this thread have a chance in hell of being successful with the horse crap offensive line KC currently has and the shitty receivers on the Chiefs roster. We need to rebuild the offensive line quickly, and we need somebody who can become a threat at WR. I don't want KC to draft ANY QBs until they get their shit together in the support positions.

Who said you have to start him now?

And here we are back to these same arguments, this fan base despises the idea of drafting a QB no matter who it is. Guess it's hard to appreciate something you've never had.

This player doesn't exist. Ryan Leaf was a "can't miss" prospect, according to most draft evaluators.

That's the line that is used because it's an easy to say you don't want a QB, even Manning had question marks.

This is getting comical.

No QB could perform better with a bad OL and shitty WR's?

People have short memories.

Here's Cassel's numbers through 12 starts:

214/392 54.6% 2,206 yards 13TD 13INT 13 FUM 41 SACK 68.3 QBR

Here's an interesting set of stats for a 11 game starter in a similar situation:

230/420 54.8% 2,608 yards 18TD 12INT 6 FUM 26 SACK 76.0 QBR

I'll admit, I've seen very little of Locker this year, so I guess my mind could be changed after seeing more of him.

I just can't put my finger on what I dislike about Claussen.
He is basically Bernie Kosar IMO, good QB who isn't a game manager but he isn't a franchise guy either.

Aaron Rodgers has no Oline post his numbers...

Also what did the Eagles have when they drafted Mcnabb, or the Colts and Manning the list goes on and on and the answer is nothing.

The Official Chiefs Fan Mantra since forever and a day is:

a) We need a line.

b) We need a line.

c) We need a line.

d) All of the above.

Thigpen > Cassel.

Neither play well from under center, so might as well take the cheaper, more athletic option.

I have never seen a fan base so offensive line obsessed yet that great Oline never even won a playoff game.

By the way for the record I think Clausen is a shorter version of Matt Schaub.
