2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

Couldn't agree more. Absolutely no clue why this kid can't get a legit shot, except for Moore being unwilling to admit mistakes like Guillen.

You gotta be aggressive, you know, go up there hacking to prove you've got grit and leadership. Leaders lead by swinging, followers sit there and take pitches.

More from that Stark update:

An official of one club that called said it was told: "We'll always listen. So if you want to throw enough names at us, feel free." But what the Royals actually want is a package led by multiple future ace-type starters. And that's a price no team would pay in this prospects-are-gold era we live in.

The presence of Royalty
Lots of Zack Greinke and Joakim Soria rumors flying in Kansas City. But teams we've surveyed say they see no sign that either is going anywhere. The Yankees just made another run at Soria, as first reported by SI.com -- even dangling Jesus Montero. But the Royals weren't interested. And they've shown no serious inclination to deal Greinke, either. An official of one club that called said it was told: "We'll always listen. So if you want to throw enough names at us, feel free." But what the Royals actually want is a package led by multiple future ace-type starters. And that's a price no team would pay in this prospects-are-gold era we live in.

not sure what else was offered for Soria but Montero would have been an excellent start.

Overall, I have tired of the Dayton Moore era. He was supposed to help build a winner and it has not happened. I appreciate his efforts with the farm clubs which looks like was his strong suit but his tunnel vison on certain players, unrealistic trade demands and overall lack of skill seems to have worn me down. Maybe his legacy will be that the farm system propelled us into the playoffs and if that is the case it will be great but his major league roster decisions are not only terrible they are down right criminal at times.

Thats encouraging. Asking for several prospects who all project out to #1-#2 starters for Greinke is obviously a hilariously high price that no one will meet. That basically means we aren't serious about trading Greinke at all.

I say thats encouraging because if you believe you cant afford Greinke after 2012, and you think you'll compete in 2012-2013, then it makes sense to seriously talk about trades now when his value is very high to give enough time for the prospects to mature. If the fans bitch about it, so what, they will come watch games when we win.

However, suppose you think you have plenty to pay Soria, Greinke, and a few other future stars? Maybe not hang on to everyone, but hang on to a lot of people? If you are the White Sox, the Giants, or some other team thats not hugely rich but has some money, you don't trade Greinke for prospects. You make that trade only if you have to, or if a team ridiculously overpays. We seem to be fishing for a team that is willing to ridiculously overpay, which tells me we can re-sign him.

his demands only look unrealistic if you dont think you can keep them. What if you can? You dont trade away an ace and a top-flight closer unless you find an idiot to trade with, or unless you have no choice.

If we give away Soria or Greinke for anything that resembles selling low, DM needs to be fired.

My problem is history says we cannot afford all of them. Every time we are in this situation we pick one or the other...Sweeney or Beltran was the perfect example. Sure things have changed and we now have two $12M players but keeping a guy like Greinke in his prime could cost $15 - $20M a year and I just don't see the Royals paying that price. Until the owners show me they are committed to winning and building our team I remain skeptical.

The difference here is that we don't have to choose anyone. We have Soria locked up long term for cheap money. Butler will have to get paid more but as long as he doesn't explode for 30 HR's he shouldn't be all that expensive. All that leaves us with is Greinke and therefore we can throw a large sum of money at him at not hurt the flexibility of the franchise. The Royals have shown they are willing to keep one guy around for quite a bit of money(Sweeney), so it might as well be Greinke.
