2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.

Because this move would require eating the vast majority of dollars owed. Thus, there isn't a chance in hell.

Killa is the kind of player that is an incentive to watch the games, now I'm simply watching for Grienke, Butler, and to be in the game thread when something Epic Fail happens.

heh...ive been saying for awhile now, that from a purely financial point of view, the "new K" is great.

No matter how bad the team is, at least they can keep getting people to go out there and spend money.

At least Kila will get AB's everyday in Omaha, so it's not too bad. I like him, but I worry people have Calvin Pickering syndrome with him. Fans get their hooks into guys like Pickering, Kila, Aaron Guiel, and go nuts. But hopefully he'll get a chance to come up when someone inevitably gets hurt.

He'll probably end up doing well because they actually let him work his way through the system instead of caving into pressure and rushing him like everyone else.

I think the kid is probably more hype/wishful thinking than anything.

And, at 26, he's dangerously close to not being considered a prospect.

How old was Ryan Howard when he came up? Worked out pretty well for the Phillies. Got a World Series and all. The thing about Kila that I like is he has plate awareness, something that nobody on the Royals has. He has a great eye. Gets on base. We need guys that get on base, because nobody else does.

Sure he might be a bust and I'm sure he's no Ryan Howard, but can he be worse than Guillen? Jose Guillen is a lost cause.

Howard was 24. At 26 he was the NL MVP.

Look, I'm not arguing that the kid isn't or wouldn't be better than Guillen. Who isn't, honestly?

This town's obsession with Kila is really quite ridiculous.

Kila hit a whopping .252 at Triple-A last year. He's hit better than .250ish exactly two times in his career (once during his career year of 2008, once at High Desert, a notorious hitting league). He's slugged better than the .430 range exactly one time (2008, when he was 200 points higher than his career average).

I realize he had a great 2008. But it was pretty obviously a career year and is a significant outlier for him. All those walks are great... but when you project as a .225/.230 hitter with 15-20 HR power, you're not going to get a lot of looks. His one ability is to draw walks... something that will be decreased once he starts facing MLB pitching.

Kila is not the answer, folks.

I think he'll be able to draw walks, he is so ridiculously patient. I just hope the power numbers come with him. We definitely need more patience in the lineup. Although at this point he'll just be stranded on first by the bottom of the order half the time.

The Phillies had Jim Thome, the Royals have uh...

Anyone that will draw a walk is not in Moore's plans.

In defense of the Kila lovers, Dayton Moore has made enough dumb ****ing decisions with personnel that it seems only natural to look forward to the next disaster.

Doesn't duncan always defend Moore?

I'm pretty sure he's busy still defending some of the bad draft picks.

I don't think people are expecting Kila to be an MVP candidate. But he's still relatively young, and has the allure of some upside. On the other hand, we know exactly what Jose Guillen is. He's an over the hill, injury prone, locker room cancer.

I don't agree with everything Moore has done. Far from it. Most of his major league moves have not worked.

But I am a big fan of the way the minor league system has been rebuilt under Moore.

And as for "bad draft picks..." I'm not among the group that has written off Moustakas and Hosmer, if that's what you mean. I just am not a big fan of criticizing for selections in the first round of the MLB draft. It's a crapshoot. It's easy now to look back in retrospect and say they should have drafted Braun, Porcello and Heyward ...

I still think Moose is closer to the player who posted impressive power numbers at Burlington as a 19-year-old than the guy who struggled at the cavernous stadium in Wilmington (and hit well away from the Blue Rocks' home). And one season - playing through an injury to his guide hand and dealing with just-diagnosed vision issues - is not nearly enough to write off Hosmer.

Should know a hell of a lot more about both players by the end of this season.

Anyway, all that is beside the point... a guy who has proven he is a .250 hitter with 15-20 HR power IN THE MINOR LEAGUES does not deserve as much talk as Kila gets, no matter how many walks he can draw.
