This. He would sometimes block for Charles in two back sets, and sometimes he'd carry the ball, and sometimes he'd run pass routes, and even block for Cassel. There is plenty of room for him to be a RB first and FB second. Including short yardage. We used Thomas Jones and Charles plenty in two back last year, how often did we actually use a true FB? On a pretty low percentage of our snaps is my guess.

Knowmo, here is what McClain said himself about the matter. Notice he states FB first and RB second. I totally agree 58, he can be that guy if we don't have Jones. I think he could be the #2 RB behind Charles and get a LOT of carries to go with his FB duties.

I would guess McClain would be the starting fullback, and they would probably split the carries Thomas Jones got last year between McClain and Jones.

Doubt it. He was a favorite when they thought he could do something for them. Then, when he failed, I think they still like his leadership and work ethic, just kept repeating the same company line though.
