I think most of us are excited about this approach. It's proven, if you can evaluate and draft the right players. However, some of the guys signing at this point in free agency are very low risk. One year, $3M deals have little risk. Bring a guy like Ryan Harris or Franklin or Lawson in, and worst case he serves as depth if he's beaten out for a starting gig.

As has been said many times in this thread, you have to take advantage of all areas of player procurement. Draft is your base, but then you have veteran free agents and undrafted free agents to fill in gaps. We still have gaps, at the very least from a depth perspective.

This. And maybe he makes brilliant signings in the next week and looks brilliant doing it. I just don't see the harm in fixing a few areas or signing a few low contract to help this roster. Most people think we won't be better than 8-8 this year and that doesn't sound like a record you would be ok with not doing very much esp when you are 40 mil under where you should be,

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have "strong interest" in free agent Malcom Floyd.
They clearly prefer Floyd to free agent Braylon Edwards. Floyd turns 30 before the season, but can stretch the field with a career yards-per-reception average of 17.27. He also broke into the league with the Chargers when Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron held the same position in San Diego back in 2004.

The Baltimore Sun's Mike Preston reports that the Ravens do have interest in Osi Umenyiora, but not at the Giants' current first-round asking price.
The Sun essentially reported the same thing last week, confirming that the Ravens had shown "preliminary interest" in last year's NFL leader in forced fumbles. The Ravens will hope for the Giants' price tag to come down. You have to remember that Umenyiora won't just cost a high draft pick; he'll require a new contract with a ton of front-loaded money. It's not an easy trade

Rams agreed to terms with LB Brady Poppinga, formerly of the Packers.
The 32-year-old Poppinga will a Sam linebacker consideration for St. Louis, likely playing behind either Na'il Diggs or Zac Diles while focusing on special teams. Poppinga tore his ACL last October, but should be healthy by now.
