Dakota Fanning to be raped onscreen

This is disturbing. I hope people boycott this movie because there's no need for crap like this.

Dakota, 12, to star in 'disturbing paedophile film'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773

Child actress Dakota Fanning will appear in a controversial new movie featuring paedophile scenes.

War of the Worlds star Dakota, 12, has signed up to appear in Hounddog.

The screenplay calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments.

A source close to the film said: "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals.

"In this movie, both things happen." Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star.

But despite Fanning's status as a bankable actress - whose movies, including last year's War of the Worlds have earned more than half a billion dollars since 2001 - the alarming material seems to have scared off potential investors, according to the New York Daily News.

The film charts the life of a girl who is abused and finds solace in the music of Elvis Presley.

Fanning's carefully choreographed rape scene has already been filmed. But then the production - which also stars Robin Wright Penn, David Morse and Piper Laurie - was stopped because of a lack of money.

But emergency investors were found and the movie is set to be finished by the end of the week.

"It's not just the rape scene - the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress," Fanning's agent, Osbrink, said.

"And I've never been so proud of her in my life. In every scene she gets better and better."

My dream is to make movies that make people think.

Hey crazy, read the story I posted in #384: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...&postcount=384

The story specifically says the rape scene is NOT graphic.

The disturbing scene lasts a few minutes but is not graphic. There is no nudity, the scene is very darkly lit and only Fanning's face and hand are shown.

umm, rape is wrong, bottom line. Raping a little girl is also wrong...

making a movie about a girl getting raped, can make people think, and open minds, and make people more aware, sure.

But a graphic rape scene with a young impressionable mind as one of the actors, is not necessary.

I can't stand this, now you're sucking me in.

what ever, man. Peace, love and joy.

No. Passing judgment on something you haven't seen as worthless, exploitive and "wrong" makes you closed-minded.

Close-minded? Hardly. I don't need to see a movie to consider an alternative point of view.

I'm just not willing to clutter an already cluttered existence with unnecessary "entertainment". There's not enough time in the day to spend it sitting through something that's not gonna make me feel better in any way.

Understand, this has NOTHING (at least for me) to do with the rape. I don't watch dramas pretty much at all. I'm one of the few people I know that's never seen "Titanic".

Think of it as a catharsis, like a drug. Harold and Kumar, in your example, are "pot". It's dumb, but it makes you giggle. In the end, you had a couple hours of sur-reality and you'll wake up in the morning with no ill effects. "Titanic" is heroin. You watch it, thinking it will make you feel good, and instead it only makes you feel worse.

I'm still not watching this movie, only a "couple minutes of seeing her face and hands" while I'm sure there will be sounds in the rape, it's not a silent epidemic in america, people know the horrors of mankind, and this isn't enlightenment, its gross negligence.

Is this really the issue you want to stand up for, so strongly?

I suggest you take your own advice about closed minded people who think their way is the only way.

Let’s drop this subject, agree to disagree, talk about something else

I can certainly appreciate your point of view, htismaqe. A lot of people don't want to see this type of movie, but I'll say again that if you're in that type of audience then it's not being made for you, and I don't mean that in ANY derogatory sense. Just that you are not its target audience.

Likewise, I'm not the target audience of Harold and Kumar. I'm not sure I laughed even once. Same with SuperTroopers... that was the first movie in more than 10 years I didn't finish.

But I recognize its place in cinema, and I don't go around say that it encourages illegal drug use and I don't say it influences children.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the movie is centralizing around her being raped. I haven't seen it, though.

I could just be part of a bigger picture... maybe a story about a little girl's struggle with physical and emotional abuse.

Plot outline from IMDB: A drama set in the American South, where a precocious, troubled girl (Fanning) finds a safe haven in the music and movement of Elvis Presley.

According to them, not about rape. It's just a scene. Like the rape scene in Monster's Ball.

But that's what you don't get. The target audience of Harold and Kumar IS stoners. No it doesn't encourage illegal drug use, it GLORIFIES it. In the end, that's what all movies do - they put a topic on a HUGE screen, make it larger than life, and glorify it. An even better example would be Cheech and Chong - I highly doubt many people STARTED smoking pot because of Cheech and Chong, but there's a damn good reason "Up in Smoke" was one of the highest-selling home video titles of all time.

Which brings me back to the Dakota Fanning pic. What's the purpose?
