Yeah, Bruce completely panicked tonight. On that note, I always wondered if Hos didn't GIDP in Game 7 if Bruce would have gone to Lincecum (he was warming up iirc).

It's pretty awesome. Theo specifically cited the Royals as a model in 2013 during the rebuild of the Cubs organization. It would be fitting for them to win it all the year after we finally took the crown.

This. There the NL version of the Royals except with better starting pitching and a better manager

They're actually built pretty differently. They hit for power and they walk a lot more than the Royals. They aren't a contact team, and this make the lineup struggle to put together rallies like it did in Games 1, 3 and the first 8 innings of Game 4 of this series. In their bullpen, Rondon and Chapman are great, but they're not unhittable like Hoch, Herrera and Davis were for us last year.

With that said. You're dead on about their rotation. They have three pitchers pitching at the level of Johnny Cueto for the 2015 Royals, and their 4th starter matches our most reliable pitcher of 2015 (Volquez).

Like the 2015 Royals, they're also fun as hell to watch. They also deserve it every bit as much as the 2015 Royals, and with that lineup they never feel like they're out of a game.

I agree that Maddon's among the best. He had an off night last night but it happens to even the best in the game (see Bochy's performance tonight). Hopefully these last two matches inspires him to go straight for the kill when he has it in front of him (putting Chapman in to start the 8th, etc).

Yost has actually been a pretty damn good postseason manager. In 22 games, he's only made 1 clear blunder (bringing in Ventura in the WC). Even putting in Madson was a defensible decision because of the oncoming storm. Yost and the staff worried about the longterm risks for Davis' health in a rain delay, and with Davis' 2016, those fears may have been justified. I still think the right move was bringing in Davis and worrying about 2016 later, but Yost did have legitimate justification for his decision making.

He arguably could have been more aggressive in Games 4 and 7 of the 2014 World Series, but I honestly think Tito and Bochy may have been the only managers in the game with the gonads to go straight for the kill with Herrera in the (early) 4th innings of those contests.

What won me on Yost was how he seemed to learn his lesson after his experiences in 2014. While Terry Collins waited until their were two runners on in the 8th to bring in Familia, Yost went straight for the knockout and put in Davis for a clean 2 inning save, a move even Maddon has been hesitant to make so far in the postseason. Yost went with Davis in the 8th three times in the 2015 postseason, illustrating obvious growth for him as a postseason manager.

Even if you want to say he had 2 major mistakes in 22 games, this is still a pretty good ratio, all things considered. Maddon's bullpen management in Game 3 was as questionable as any moves Yost has made in October (outside of Ventura), and Bochy's meltdown today matched any of Yost's playoff blunders as well.

Edgar earned me as a fan for life in the 2015 playoffs. He matched Gibbons and outmanaged both Hinch and Collins to earn the title. In his postseason career, I believe Bochy is the only one to have ever outmanaged him, and that even includes Buck "Chessmaster" Showalter.

His stubbornness with Soria in 2016 was incredibly frustrating, but I'm willing to give him a pass because of the major injuries we had at every part of our roster. It was pretty sad and telling that when he finally tried switching Soria out for Strahm and Kelvin, they both blew multiple saves, with even Wader blowing a couple down the stretch.

The team just wore down this year, but I have all the faith in the world that we can gear up for another run in 2017, and yes, that includes with Edgar as the captain.
