I'm going to Vegas, baby!
OK, just got done booking a trip to Vegas in April. This will be my first time. Actually it will be my first real vacation ever. I have a few weeks to plan and I want to see as much stuff as possible.

Hit me with your recommendations. I want to know what places I need to visit, restaurants can't be missed, sights I should see. Trying to keep a budget so dropping big money on a bunch of shows isn't really my thing. I might gamble a little but I'm not big on gambling. I will be looking for photo spots though. I will be bringing my camera and taking a ton of pictures.

So what do you think, Planet? What do I need to see in VEGAS?

Call Yellow Cab and ask for a driver named Sanford. He was our driver there. He gave us his cell number and any time we needed a ride we gave him a call. The dude was an awesome driver. He knew everything about Vegas and had great recommendations, and he made great time. The dude is kind of a maniac though. He doesn't abide by all traffic and parking laws. But he gets you where you need to go fast. I have no clue if the guy is even still there but it's worth a try.

Downstrip is good for some (I like the Nugget) but not for everyone. The new mega-casinos up strip are part of the Vegas experience.

The train is kind of fun right at first but it takes too much time and distance. Cabs are the most direct route, your hotel doorman can get you a cheap limo for a nice night out and about if you ask him right.

Sounds like the bus is an option, don't know anything about it although the last time I heard a guy announce he was taking a deuce it surely wasn't anything I wanted to sit in.

My Vegas agenda:

Day One: Explore in and around my hotel
Day Two: pretty much open, and then the free shows at Caesars, Treasure Island, and Mirage in evening
Day Three: The Stratosphere rides, and then KA Cirque show
Day Four: Fremont, the Mob Museum, Don't Tell Mama, Bellagio show
Day Five: Pretty much open, but leave in afternoon

We're going to Peppermill and Aria buffet. I really wanted to see Barry Manilow, but couldn't get tickets.

Oh man those Stratosphere rides....you're a better man than me is all I'm saying.
Day Four you might work in some poolside time for you both. Relaxing and Vegas-y.
If there are any games you want to learn (craps, paigow (fun), etc.) the free lessons the casinos give in the morning are instructive.

The Monte?

When I was a district manager for NAPA, they would hold their regional meeting in Vegas and book at the ****ing Monte. I guess some race car drivers Dad owns the place, NAPA was one of his sponsors, so they gave NAPA a good deal. It's kind of old an down dive, but if you're not spending much time in your room, it will work.

We got a really good deal at the Monte Carlo. I'm guessing it's going to be the third nicest hotel I've ever stayed in.

Don't tell mamas is fun. Check out Insert Coins across the street and if you like Thai food, Le Thai is awesome and it's next door to Mamas.

If they offer an upgraded room at Monte Carlo, is it worth it? The comments on yelp seem to suggest so. I don't plan to spend too much time in the room.
