NE buys low and sells high.

Randy Moss, for example.

They milked that man for all he was worth and knew once he hit worthless.

And still got some for him...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Randy Moss was a known team cancer...

Fitzgerald is not...

he's the ultimate Patriot in their eyes...I guarantee it...

they bought Welker for a 2nd and a 7th before Welker was Welker...

if they want Fitzgerald they'll pay for him...I know that for sure

People who want crack bad enough will sell their kids for it.

NE won't.

It's not that he wouldn't be perfect, it's not that he wouldn't love to go there, it's that THEY DON'T NEED HIM as much as any other team.

So, other teams will be willing to pay/trade more.

if Fitzgerald finds his way on the trade market...

I would bet the farm New England would end up with him...

he's a perfect fit for that organization and they have more available assets than any NFL team

Fitzgerald is one of VERY FEW NFL players I'd give 2+ 1st round picks for...

New England could trade a 1, 1 and 3 for Fitz and their fan base would be ecstatic and their team would be exponentially better...

Fitz and Brady?

Fitz the ultimate route runner and team player on a Belichick team?

Frankly, that's downright FRIGHTENING...and I pray to God that doesn't happen.

I'd rather have my favorite football player (Fitzy) on the Broncos or Raiders than on the Patriots.

I think trading for a Fitz is pretty unnecessary for the Patriots and a move I can't see them making.

They value their draft picks above all else. They have a passing offense that is lights out right now with Welker, Branch and Tate. They went back to the Patriots heyday where you have a bunch of multi-dimensional receivers that individually don't overwhelm you, but collectively they are unstoppable.

I'd give a #1 and a #4 for Fitz and never think twice about it again. This offense needs someone to take the heat off Bowe and with Fitz's Haley connections, his relationship with Bowe and his work ethic, it's a natural fit.

The real Jamaal Charles numbers

Posted by Mike Florio on December 14, 2010, 11:14 AM EST

As we predicted on Sunday, the contract given by the Chiefs to running back Jamaal Charles wasn’t as good as initially advertised.

We were confident in making the prediction because no contract ever ends up being as good as initially advertised.

Per a league source, the reported guarantee of $13 million is actually $8 million, in the form of a roster bonus paid upon (or not long after) execution of the deal. There’s another $2 million in injury guarantees only.

Also, the reported value of $32.5 million over five years (an average of $6.5 million) is the maximum package, with all incentives reached. The base package has an annual value closer to $5.5 million.

Though the drop isn’t as dramatic as the gap between the initial ESPN report and the subsequent ESPN report regarding Donovan McNabb’s deal with the Redskins, we hope that those of us who report the initial numbers eventually will acknowledge the fact that there’s a disconnect between those numbers and the real numbers.

I believe, though I might well be wrong, that his contract goes through 2012, and that opt out is after the '11 season.

the opt out for Fitz and the Cards is AFTER the '11 season.

So if you Chiefs fans want him bad enough for next season and can't wait another year, Pioli would have to sell farm for him most likely on draft day to have a chance at him a year earlier than when he can actually opt out.

And he would...to go to a SB contender with a top-tier QB who will allow him to regain the level of play he had when Kurt was throwing to him. Or so says the local talk radio here.
