Life Quitting Smoking - Page 16

Both the wife and I need to quit, and since we've tried to quit at the same time before, and THAT REALLY SUCKED, I took the plunge first.

Haven't had a cigarette since last night. I've quit several times in the past, sometimes for up to three months - quitting ain't the problem - it's staying quit that kicks my ass.

Any advice on non-smoking methods/products or encouragement would be appreciated.

Not too bad overall.. the gum I think seems to help with the really strong cravings... like i said earlier in this thread i find myself using it more often now... but so far so good

Good luck Fraz. I said i wanted to be smoke free by my birthday (this Friday), well it might not quite happen.I started last week cutting back to half a pack, then today I was down to 7.I may never be "totally" smoke free cuz lord knows I do love having a buzz kick in

while I’m having a smoke now and then.BUTFor all intents and purposes, other than say 2-3 a week, I’ll be "smoke free"

I successfully quit smoking, I am on week 5! I have attempted to quit 3 or 4 times in the past and the longest I lasted was 2 weeks. But this time it is easier to quit now that I got a new job and they do not allow smoke breaks or smoking on the premises. It seems though when I go out drinking on the weekends, I always bumb a couple of smokes......which I now I shouldn't do, but I still don't wake up the next morning and light one up. I just went cold turkey the day before my first day on the job and it really wasn't that hard

I know you catch a lot of hell, but I'm really happy for you, Paul. Good job, man. That's quite an accomplishment. Only other addicts know exactly how difficult.

thanks, it is nice waking up in the morning and not having to hack up a lung, plus I'm probably saving $100/month or so and I can run a mile without getting out of breath now!! it's crazy!

I have noticed my Energy Level Increase 10 Fold....

Im not tired and Lethargic all the time...

Seven smoke-free months now.

One problem - last week the wife and I were out having pizza. They had Sam Adams on tap so I ordered one. Now, I don't drink much any more, and when I do it's generally sipping expensive scotch at home. This was the first time I'd drank beer out since I had quit. As soon as I'd swallowed my first mouthful (Sam Adams on tap is wonderful, BTW) the cigarette demon said HEY fuckER I'M STILL HERE AND YOU CAN'T DRINK BEER WITH A SMOKE, DAMMIT! GET ME A MARLBORO NOW! Oh my God it was like someone walked up and punched me. Now, I was at a non-smoking restaurant, and the urge was long gone by the time I left, but I don't know what I'd have done if there had been somebody sitting there smoking. That would have been tough.

The moral of the story - cigarette demon is still lurking. It will try to hit you over the head with a bottle (or glass) of beer, so be ready for it.

I was waiting in line at a convenience store yesterday. I was fixated on a can of tobacco. I wanted it SO badly. I should really pay at the pump.
