Life Quitting Smoking - Page 20

Both the wife and I need to quit, and since we've tried to quit at the same time before, and THAT REALLY SUCKED, I took the plunge first.

Haven't had a cigarette since last night. I've quit several times in the past, sometimes for up to three months - quitting ain't the problem - it's staying quit that kicks my ass.

Any advice on non-smoking methods/products or encouragement would be appreciated.

My mom has smoked since she was 18 and she is now 59. She just quit last week and hasn't smoked one. I pray every day she'll have the strength to continue it. It's such a huge fear that my mom might die of cancer.

my wife was the epitome of addicted. She quit a couple times because she needed to. She finally quit when she WANTED to. Think this way. You are an addict. You can NEVER have so much as a social puff again. Then you will finally kick it. Good luck.

p.s. I quit several times. But until I new that I was nearing my window of opportunity I would always relapse. You will know when it is truly the right time.

My Mother-in law quit smoking in 1988. She now is in the last stages of smoking related lung cancer. My mother is 83 and I catch her smoking occasionally. What are ya gonna do.

i've tried the patches, gums, and losenges. once i was done with those, i would go right back to smoking. it sucked.

i tried something new.

cold turkey.

i haven't smoked in 2 months. don't feel like it at all. it was hard (very hard) for about 5 days. after that, smooth sailing.

i am under some immense stress and haven't felt the urge at all. i have also been out drinking without the urge. i would like to say at this point that i'm done, but i know how that has gone in the past. to be honest though, i do feel a lot different this time going cold turkey... i don't feel the struggle i have felt in the past still trying to get the nicotine out of my system that the patches, gums etc kept in my system after quitting the "act" of smoking.

good luck to you, i know it's hard, but if you want to do it you can.

having kids that bug the crap out of you to quit helps a lot too...

i thought i was done... but i tell you what... about 3 weeks ago.. i had the strongest cravings ever... i mean it was really really brutal...

it has eased off some but damn... it came back as if it had never left..

i guess it never goes away

dang... i used to live on that sh*t in the army. a couple days with no sleep or food? throw in a dip of 'schlaggen (copenhagen).

however to support my claims that cold turkey is the way to go, i have been in the middle of a (*nasty*) custody battle and i haven't gone back to smoking. talk about being fuckin' stressed out??!! i'm there and then some for certain dude. my ex is a real fucking winner and has put my kids through HELL for the last 2 years. she's an abuser, a scumbag liar and a friggin drug addict to boot. has no business being anywhere near children. dealing with all this BS had kept me smoking for a long time, but i just said "fuck IT" and quit 2 months ago. everyone thought i was reeruned for trying during all this court sh*t, but it seemed to work for me. they smell nasty to me now, and the thought of polluting my lungs again after all i've been through since i quit is just completely moronic to me. the crap is coming out of my lungs in big old chunks. it hurts, but it also feels good to know it's getting out of there. it's actually VERY nice to be able to take a full, deep breath again.

good luck to you too dude. i KNOW it aint easy, but stick it out. breathing is much more important. i just watched my grandad pass on due to emphysema a few months back. i did it for him and for my kids (and for myself). if you have some inspiration of your own, go for it and stick to it!
