Life Quitting Smoking - Page 44

Both the wife and I need to quit, and since we've tried to quit at the same time before, and THAT REALLY SUCKED, I took the plunge first.

Haven't had a cigarette since last night. I've quit several times in the past, sometimes for up to three months - quitting ain't the problem - it's staying quit that kicks my ass.

Any advice on non-smoking methods/products or encouragement would be appreciated.

Thank you and holy crap, it must have been even tougher for you. That's very impressive. Congrats to you as well. There's something very gratifying about knowing you had enough will power to finally just stop, isn't there?

I quit New Years Eve last year and have been smoke free ever since. I've had cravings, but nothing serious. A few months before I quit I switched to rolling my own ,which was much cheaper, and I think that switch was what made it easier to quit the others. My wife quit four years ago and every year she gets herself something for not smoking. I think for my present I'll get myself a new wife.

I still have a strong urge for it some days. Zero % of the urge is nicotine related, that was out of my system a long time ago. What gets me, is not having something in my lip, after chewing for 30 years. I was going through a can a day at $5 a pop x 7 days a week x 4 weeks a month x 12 months in a year, for a total of $1680.00.

What works for me is to use the herbal chew, or just put in a pinch of chamomile tea. I also threw $400 in a jar the day I quit and toss in $200 each month. At the end of the year, I'm going to take the money and blow it on something nice. ($2800.00) I will likely use is as part of a vacation with my wife. After putting up with me for the last three months of not chewing, she has it coming. I know it hasn't been easy at times, being around someone that wants to curb stomp something. At times, I know I have been down right ornery.

On the other hand, if I were to screw up and start chewing, I have convinced myself to make a donation with what's in the jar to PETA. I hate those assholes with every fiber of my being, so that also helps keep me on the straight and narrow path.

I quit 11 years ago. I smoked from about 15-30 years old. I don't miss it at all or ever think about it. I know if I ever smoked one I would be ****ed. Anyone can quit if they want too. It seemed impossible for me at the time, and I smoked more than all of my friends. I had one friend that quit for 3 years and started back. Just stupid to fall back in after that much time.

I quit chewing after 22 years on Jan 1st and it has been easier than the other 8 -10 times I quit for some reason. Probablly because my fiance quit smoking the same day and I know if I start back she will and I really don't want that.

Nice work on PETA. It's all psychological and you figured out what makes you tick.

I've suggested the jar thing for lots of guys on this thread. That's what make me tick.

I quit smoking March 29th of this year, after 7 years of smoking. The tool that helped me quit the most, was an electric cigarette. I still get the nicotine, but no one of the other harmful substances. After doing research and finding out that nicotine is as harmful to you as caffeine it made me feel much better about using the electronic cig.. i recommend it to anyone trying to quit smoking, it really is amazing.. and you can smoke it anywhere.
