step up? for what? They front office has to do jack shit, they know people go to the games not for the team, just for social aspect and party. Then they rake in the money for luxury tax. Hell stepping up to front office just means making more money.

And I have to lol a little at Deez calling Billy Butler "Butterball" while drooling over all 6'6 290 of Adam Dunn. He's not exactly the most slender guy these days either... Dunn is a premium home run hitter and walk drawer. He's also a premium strikeout maker. What he isn't is a premium run producer. I don't know if you're talking about me, siberian. I'm not a big Dunn fan and I'm sure I was outspoken about that. Don't remember the exact conversation, but I would probably have talked about how bad he was defensively, how many of his HR were solo shots, his poor average with RISPs, and his poor overall run production relative to his HR totals. He's also a notoriously bad hitter with RISP. I think he's a good player. I know sabermatricians love him. I think sabermetrics are important. But I think a purely sabermetric view overstates Dunn's worth. He's so worthless against lefties, he's a pretty easy out in important late situations against teams with decent lefties in the pen. That hurts his overall value. He doesn'y hit with RISP, and his heavy reliance on HR and walks hurts his run production overall. Throw in his lack of speed and horrible glove and his age/size, and I think you're talking about a dangerous guy to throw a huge offer at. Anyway, signing Dunn would mean either Billy or Kila is traded in the offseason (or Kila gets to spend another season in Omaha...) in my mind. Can't see that happening.

I'll take The Donkey over Butterball in the octagon every single day.
And I'll take a guy who puts a heavy reliance on walks and HRs. Those are ok qualities for me. If we're talking about his relative worth to a team, the pressure he would take off of Butterball and Moosetacos would more than make up for other weaknesses in his game. He's not a perfect player. Far from it. But he makes much sense for KC. No worries, though, since DM is a blathering ****ing fool when it comes to ML roster management. I fully expect Bloomquist's smaller, yet older brother on Target-brand hGH (note lack of caps) for $15M per. |

The Royals are 19th in payroll this year out of 30 teams. That is about as much as you can ask for when your market is Kansas City. The Royals have to utilize the farm system, and then when it's time, supplement them with a few nice free agents. That is all you can do. |

I mean, if you trade Ka'ahuie or Butler in the offseason, sure, Dunn makes sense (though I think $15 million is the absolute cap of his value, considering his size, age and limitations as a fielder/runner/run producer). Trading Butler after this season would be bad (you'd be selling low). And how is it going to be received if Kila rakes enough over the next few months only to be traded away?

Adam Dunn makes $12,000,000 this year. Just thought I'd point that out. |

I'm completely good on revisiting this entire conversation based on Kila's performance, but it's been made abundantly clear that DM values him only slightly higher than the bat boy.
What I don't want to see is Aviles II, and the problem is that we won't have a large enough sample size to know exactly what we have, most likely. In short, we've completely wasted the 2010 season. What we know is that Dunn will supply a shit ton of power and walks. With very important young players coming up in the next season or two, we need his skill set. We absolutely must have a legit #4 so that our (young) foundational players don't press. |

BTW, Dunn can't be THAAAT bad at driving in runs in scoring position. Sure, with his power numbers it could be better. But the guy had 105 RBI's last year (currently 7th in RBI's in the NL) and you can rest assured that pitchers really don't want to throw to him when runners are on. The Royals haven't had a guy with 105 RBI's in a decade. Know who the last person to do it was? Carlos Beltran.

I posted numerous times that the Royals should sign Dunn when he was a FA...I see Duncan is still saying the same shit today he did then.

His skills are hitting HRs and drawing walks. He's good enough at those things to be a good MLB player. I'd be open to signing him (at a reasonable price in the $12-15 range), but it's going to require trading Kila or Butler to make room for him.

Let's be fair there's no chance we sign him, Dayton Moore doesn't like players that know how to take pitches.

I still think he's a great piece if he's not your primary guy. I still think his value is overstated if you don't have a consistent run producers to protect him (because he takes so many walks with RISP, the onus to produce often falls on the guys hitting behind him).
