2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

This is my thought he does 2 things that are extremely important no one on the Royals does, he hits HR's and he takes walks.

The Royals are a team full of impatient singles hitters, god forbid we get a guy with legit power that will walk 100 times. I could careless about his batting average his OBP more than makes up for it.

Considering what it looks like the Royals think of Kila at this point I'm not overly sure he's even in the discussion to management.

And are you going to play him in LF? Or trade the one good, young hitter on the team? Or trade the guy the Royals' fanbase loves most?

Questions: If KIla sucks and is traded in the offseason to make room for a Dunn signing, how is that received?

If Kila is good and is traded to make room for him, how is that received?

If Dunn becomes a Royal, we'd see 35-40 HR, 100 BB, 175 K, 90-100 RBI for sure from him, and probably about a .390 OBP. We'd also see a ton of runners either stranded or not advanced (BB) by Dunn, leaving the run production duties on someone else's shoulders, anyway.

I just can't see it happening. But hey, maybe Kila will suck, they'll move him, and my main objection is moot.

They did just cut a high-paid player to make room for him to play. It was later than many would have liked, but it still has been done...

That's an indication they're at least willing to look (Even if they do think he's still basically Jack Cust).

Dayton only knows what batting average is. I'm not sure if he even knows what OBP is and that it is a useful stat. I bet he's twiddling his thumbs crying in his mansion that the royals are basically in last place w/ the #1 or #2 batting average in the league. Batting average doesn't fucking matter, really at all.

OBP, SLUGGING %, OPS > Batting average

I like Carl Crawford a ton. He's a great defensive leftfielder, good leadoff hitter and dynamic presence atop a lineup.

I do have a tendency to dislike slowpitch softball guys like Dunn, though...

Anyway, I'm not saying he's bad or worthless (in fact, have said I think he's a good MLB player several times). I'm saying I think: 1) His impact in a bad lineup like the Royals is a little overrated; 2) He's not a fit for the Royals. Where is he going to play?

Well you do have to find some power somewhere, I would be a little apprehensive about putting young guys into positions in the middle of the order the day they come up that's a ton of pressure.

Also for the other guy I realize it wasn't you now, Carl Crawford is fully capable of playing centerfield.

Beggars can't be choosers. Royals need to take what they can get. We are the Royals. Carl Crawford would be a huge upgrade on this team. Then you can make Mitch the utility outfielder and you'd be pretty solid even despite a huge home run guy.

Nah man we don't need an OFer, even though it's our shittiest position in the minors. we got Gregor Blanco and he's from Atlanta that's all that matters, it's worked for Kyle Davies and kept Tony Pena in the majors for awhile.

I swear to god Pioli and Dayton are the same dude. They just go hmm, things were pretty good from where I came from. I'll just go pick up some shitty dudes from the Braves or the Pats and everything should work out. Then they finally decide to spend money and they buy Matt Cassel before they even had to and Jose Guillen.

I'd much rather sign Crawford, but I put those chances at about zero. The Yankees want him. They'll get him.

Beggars being the key word in your post, I think.

It's not so much about spending money, its about spending money in the right way. Like I said, getting a guy who is somewhat similar to Crawford is pretty easy. We had one and traded him away and everyone was happy about it. Speed is far and away the easiest tool to replace on a team and for 1.5 million this season we had a guy put up roughly the same numbers as a guy projected to make 15 million. It's easy to fall in love with Crawford because he is an exciting guy to watch, but his numbers just don't justify that big of a deal.

On Dunn, it makes more sense to overpay for him. The one tool you CANT replace for cheap is power. Guys who have a .900+ OPS don't grow on trees and while, as other people have said in this thread, he isn't perfect, we have to admit that whoever the Royals sign for big money is going to have some flaw, otherwise they aren't signing here. We will never have a slam dunk signing unless its one of our own home grown products. So if you have to take a flawed player, at least get one with a tool that you can't get anywhere else. Our Carl Crawford-light is always 1.5 million away, while Dunn hasn't existed in KC since...???
