2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

If you're really worried about service time, then you give him the Longoria treatment.

After his second professional AB, present him with a 6-year extension.

If he's the goods, do it. Honestly, though, the last thing I'm worried about is David ****ing Glass losing a little extra money.

As long as he's committed to keeping our home-grown talent, that's all I want.

There's value in getting the kid's feet wet, and I could give two shits about service time. The fact that fans even discuss this point, which should be a concern only for a penny-pinching owner, is disconcerting.
How so?

The only surefire fact is that we have team control of Moose for 6 MLB years. If we brought him up this September and had him start in KC in 2011, we would have control of him from 2011-2016.

If we wait until around June of 2011 to bring him up, we have team control for the rest of 2011, and then 2012-2017.

So the decision is do you prefer Moose's age 22 season in a year we will be lucky to win 70 games, or his age 28 season where we could conceivably be in the postseason? That is an easy choice for me.

And again, Moose is a Boras client. Of course we never know what could happen, but Boras has a very long track record of not giving away any FA years to pre-FA clients. He wants them to hit FA as soon as possible to achieve the maximum contract the market allows.

I don't think we're going to be able to let him get close to FA, but if we take the Longoria approach, no matter the agent, I think we'll have a great shot at keeping our talent.

Giving him a few ABs this year, IMO, could just help ease the transition. Not everything will be new the next time he's up, and this also might help eliminate feeling of having to "carry the team."

There would be absolutely no pressure on the kid this Sept. He could adjust and focus on enjoying the game. In this sense, his initiation would the polar opposite of Gordon's, who saw his first AB with the bases juiced on Opening Day.

Thus, maybe the next time we see him when there are greater expectations, he can take a been-there/done-that approach. Again, just a thought. Could be wrong or a moot point based on MooseTaco's personality.

Jason Kendall will need shoulder surgery and is expected to be sidelined 8-10 months.

Royals manager Ned Yost said Kendall has an "extensive tear in his rotator cuff." The injury occurred in July but was never reported, so some kudos should be given to Kendall for playing through what was surely a painful injury. Yost hopes Kendall will be ready for the beginning of next season, but given that April is seven months away, that seems a bit unrealistic. Brayan Pena and Lucas May will handle the catching duties for the rest of this season.

Sad that this needed to happen to save Yost and DM from themselves.

Yep. Bad for Kendall, good for the club.

Apparently he injured it in July. Been a tough MF to play with it since then.

Of all qualified players (154), Jason Kendall has the 3rd-worst SLG in baseball.

0.297

edit: and the 3rd-worst OPS at 0.615
