Dan Quisenberry entered Game 4 of the 1985 ALCS and promptly gave up the lead after Charlie Liebrandt had pitched a masterful 8 innings. Leibrandt opened the ninth having surrendered only four hits. But a walk to Damaso Garcia and a double by Moseby tied the game. Quisenberry entered the game and gave up a single to George Bell and a double to Al Oliver to RC field that scored Moseby and Bell, giving the Jays a 3–1 lead. The Royals did get two on and two out in the ninth, but Henke got out of the jam unscathed and emerged a winner for the second time in three games. I thought I was dead. I was in the stadium this night 25 years ago and couldn't help but think the baseball gods just hated my team. That was the last damage Al Oliver would do to the Royals. |

Royals' Duffy, Team USA fall to DR
By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com | 10/13/10 1:15 AM ET Comments (0) Team USA's undefeated run in the Pan American Qualifying Tournament came to an end on Tuesday night with a 7-2 semifinal loss to the Dominican Republic in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Royals left-hander Danny Duffy started for Team USA, giving up two runs in 4 1/3 innings and taking the loss. Lefty reliever Tim Collins had his scoreless streak ended at 6 1/3 innings when he was charged with two runs in the ninth inning. The Royals' two position players combined for just one hit. Eric Hosmer was 1-for-3 with a triple and scored a run. Mike Moustakas was hitless in four at-bats as Team USA was held to six hits. Team USA, which was seeded first, fell to 9-1 and will play Venezuela in the third-place game on Wednesday. The Dominican Republic, seeded fourth, stands 7-3 and will meet Cuba, 8-2, for first place. Royals prospects give boost to Team USA
Hosmer, Moustakas driving force in Pan American Tournament By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com | 10/14/10 12:15 AM ET Royals prospects Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas provided Team USA with a pretty potent one-two punch in the Pan American Qualifying Tournament that concluded on Wednesday in Puerto Rico. Hosmer, the first baseman who played all 10 games, led the team's regulars with a .389 average and tied for the most hits, as he went 14-for-36 with seven RBIs. He also walked eight times for a .511 on-base percentage. Moustakas, in 10 games at third base, led the team with eight RBIs. He batted .244 (10-for-41) with three doubles and a home run. Hosmer had two doubles, two triples and a homer. The Royals had four left-handed pitchers on the team. Mike Montgomery was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in two starts and struck out 14 in 10 innings. Everett Teaford, in two starts, was 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA and 13 strikeouts in nine innings. Danny Duffy was 1-1 in his two starts, finishing with a 2.89 ERA. Reliever Tim Collins was in five games with a 2.57 ERA, scored on only in his last outing. Hosmer, Moustakas and Montgomery were named to the all-tournament team along with a fourth Team USA player, center fielder Mike Trout of the Angels. Team USA finished with a 9-1 record when Wednesday's scheduled third-place game against Venezuela was canceled because of rain. The cancellation meant the two teams finished tied for third place. The Dominican Republic, which inflicted the only loss on Team USA in the semifinals, won the championship on Wednesday night with a 5-2 victory over Cuba. Dick Kaegel is a reporter for MLB.com. Food for thought:
Looking at what Nolan Ryan has been able to do for The Rangers... does anyone other than myself think that if George Brett would have been able to buy the team the Royals could be having simular results? I mean you know someone who knows baseball and actually cares. |

Money and the willingness to spend it are all I care about. Brett is wealthy, but not wealthy enough. If he wants to "lead" a group of deep-pocket investors, cool. |

25 years ago today.
An off day after Danny Jackson shut out the Jays 2-0 on a clear cool fall day at Royals stadium to pull the royals back from elimination by the Jays. The Royals scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd and Jackson was pretty much in command the entire day. This is the game where George Bell was thrown out by Lynn Jones form LF trying to advance from 1st on a single. It was a close play at 3rd and after the game Bell claimed MLB/the media didn't want a Canadian team to make the World Series. Bell was such a clown. But he was safe. It would be two days before Buddy Biancalana surprised Bob Costas and every Royals fan in existence. |
