2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

I could see something like: Lamb+Duffy+Aviles+Clint Robinson/Ka'ahuie being enough, barely. Two elite pitching prospects, one who is close to big-league ready, and two cheap and controllable, productive position players.

A nucleus of Greinke, Butler and Upton would look pretty good when supported by Moose/Hosmer/Colon/Myers and Montgomery, Dwyer ...

If you're willing to move Butler, I think he and Lamb/DUffy+Aviles/CF prospect are probably enough to get it done. He and Upton are similar hitters, and it gives Arizona a premium pitching prospect and some useful parts in return.
Sold.

At some point, it will be imperative to move prospects for proven talent, and the Upton possibility should be one that DM is thoroughly exploring.

I've heard that Montgomery and Dwyer are the two of the big four that the Royals are high on, so it would be great to do this trade without giving up either of them, Butler or one of the top-tier hitting prospects.

Let's say they do: Lamb+Duffy+Aviles+Jared Dyson

2012 roster

2B Giavatelli
SS Colon
CF Upton
DH Butler
1B Hosmer
3B Moustakas
RF Myers
C Perez/May
LF Gordon/Lough/etc

Rotation
Greinke
Hochevar
Mazzaro
Montgomery
Dwyer

Bullpen
Soria
T Collins
A Crow
Chapman

Looks pretty good. Young, young, young, but a ton of talent...

I'd trade Butler for Upton in a NY second.

I like it. I would rather keep Butler and give away a little more pitching since we seem to have some depth in the minors.

I don't think that would ever happen straight up.

I don't think he'll ever have 1 or 2 good years unless that's defined at 4.5 ERA and 1.3 WHIP. But, we need him to burn through innings next year so we don't rush anybody.

Davies just turned 27. You could probably find a pretty fair list of guys who at least became average around that age or later.

I like it too, but not a big fan of the Hoch/Mazzaro combo at the top. Hopefully Monty/Dwyer develop quickly in that scenario.

What's the scout line? "If you can do it once, it's the job of the coaches to get you to repeat it"? Something like that.

I could be dead wrong about Davies, but every year he has 2-3 dominant performances (often sandwiched around starts where he vomits all of himself, but...), and I think he might be able to capture that form for the majority of a season.

He has the tools. Stuff is not an issue for him. Regardless, even if he stays the same guy, he's a viable #5.

Definitely are building a strong pitching system in the minors. There's a second wave behind the top four lefties (headlined by Sample, Melville and Crawford Simmons), and a third wave behind that headline by some really promising kids in Yombati and Ventura.

Also sounds like Jason Adam is going to be a quick mover/real find.

I felt the exact same way this time last year, but I've reached my limit in terms of optimism. Hell, he didn't even have the dominant stretch at the end of the season like the previous two year. He has the stuff when he's "good". But his out pitch, the curve, is there sometimes and not there others. If that's not working, he's no better than mediocre. And the guy has had a bunch of opportunities; there's a reason the Braves basically gave up on him. I absolutely hope you're right though.

Yeah, at 27 he should be in his prime, currently. I will point out my own hypocrisy in holding out hope for Davies yet having some palpable disdain for Hochevar. Admittedly, it's because I didn't like the actual draft choice or the BS "mystery" surrounding the draft that year.

I do not want to trade Greinke, but if Upton was part of what we'd be getting in return I'd be ok with it. It would be even better if we packaged Butler + prospects for Upton though. I'm not a big fan of Billy.

Yep....would have sucked to have Longoria right now. Why take the stud college bat when you can take a stud(?) college pitcher who has sat our a year?
