I forgot perhaps the best example of a guy with a poor K/BB becoming an elite hitter:
Ryan Braun MILB line: .313/.375/.572, 70 BB, 151 K Ryan Braun MLB line: .307/.364/.554, 184 BB, 467 K |

Maybe Snider needs to get on the roids. |

When you go through his numbers - those figures jump off the page. They come off ahead of his OPS, his HR #s, etc... Just look at them - those are clearly not typical. I don't know what my cutoff is, but I know that Travis Snider's way the hell beyond it. You want to just ignore them because he's 22, but those are not numbers you ignore when they're that extreme. I suppose it's kinda like the marriage question - if you have to ask if you should get married, then you probably shouldn't. If you have to ask if his numbers are close to the line? They probably aren't. Travis Snider's are nowhere close to the line. That kind of command of the strike zone is highly unlikely to improve significantly. Yeah, I'm comfortable writing him off as a superstar. I certainly wouldn't be willing to include him as a primary component of a trade for a legitimate major league star. But I tell you what - here's your argument: Jay Bruce. Their minor league numbers are stunningly similar. And I figure Jay Bruce will be one of the next true superstars. But what Bruce has done (and in similar circumstances to Snider, with injuries, etc...) is improve incrimentally at all those peripheral stats at the major league level and he's done it every season. It wasn't until Snider got to the major league level and swung at everything they threw up there that I lost faith in him. Bruce didn't do that. Like it or not - historically, that means a hell of a lot.

This isn't making sense. |

Lots of Greinke rumors popping up today, especially since Cliff Lee is probably going to finally make up his mind today.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5915164 According to ESPN, Dayton Moore is now actively looking through the offers, and apparently both Texas and New York rank way down the list because they apparently do not have enough of what we are looking for. The Brewers are interested, but they also dont have what we want. According to the stories, it sounds like the Blue Jays and the Nationals are the two interested teams who most likely have what we want, its just a matter of if either of them want Greinke badly enough to meet our demands. Seperately, aside from the teams mentioned above, a story from SI mentions the Dodgers as a possible trading partner.

They obviously aren't going to trade Kershaw, and I can't see why acquiring any of the other pitchers would make sense for us. |

We've talked a lot about the Jays, but we haven't mentioned the Nats too much. What are the pieces being speculated about? Thoughts on them?

Going into 2010, their farm system wasn't too strong, according to reports...

From Royals fans who follow this way more than I do, the names I am hearing from the Nats are Jordan Zimmerman, Danny Espinosa, and Ian Desmond. Obviously not all 3 of them (we dont need 2 SS), but 1 or 2 of them would have to be included, plus maybe other players we haven't heard of yet as throw-ins. Zimmerman, RHP, young kid, did well in the minors, not as well in the majors, but the Nats obviously rushed him WAY too quickly, half year in low A, full year in high A and AA, then off to Washington he went. Started 23 games in MLB, but only 5 games in his whole life in AAA. Espinosa, SS, drafted out of college, rocketed through the minors in 2 years, respectable OBP and lots of power (for a shortstop). Still showed power in his brief 100+ AB stop at the majors this year. No idea how good his glove is. Diamond, SS drafted out of high school, not much power but very high OBP in the minors, looking at his stats he doesn't look like he has anything left to prove, did pretty well in AAA, he's now about as old as Espinosa. edit: Diamond has a rather high number of errors in AAA. He might not have a good glove.

The Braun rumor was knocked down long ago. We aren't getting Braun, and the Brewers probably dont have much to offer with him off the table.

This team is nothing more than a ****ing farm team playing in the big leagues.
First Dye, then Damon, then Beltran, now Greinke, up next is probably Soria...and it won't too long before Alex Gordon gets going (possibly) and once that starts you can kiss him goodbye too. And if Moosetacos ever comes and becomes a good player, he's going to leave too. This is the same ongoing shit we've seen for years. It doesn't matter who the GM is, who our manager is.....Glass runs the ****in show.....if he doesn't wanna pay one of our good players or he starts to outplay his current contract he will immediately look to trade him for some minor league prosepcts. Then once they get good (if they get good) it will be the same deal with them. They'll get traded. I dont know why people continue to think the Royals will ever be competitive in this modern day league. They even play in the worst division in baseball and will still play for at best 3rd place in the division. |
