2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

I can't possibly seem to think management style is going to change as long as Glass is the owner and calling the shots.
You are ignorant. Last year the royals spent more than just about 40% of baseball with a payroll near average, despite a way below average market. We spent a *LOT* more (on bad players) than Texas. Money has not been our big issue in years, it has been stupidity.

Ok so what statistics do you have that backs up your argument that this time is different?

Baseball America is the undisputed authority on ranking farm systems. Every team that has ever been ranked #1 in the last 15 or 20 years by B.A. (except once, I believe) has made the playoffs within a few years. The royals are a stone-cold lock to be #1. Not just that, but the experts who spend way too much time looking at minor leaguers have been speculating that the 2011 royals farm system could be the best system any team has ever had in the last decade, even better than the Rays a couple years ago and the Rangers before that. The message you hear from unbiased people who normally dont give a flying f*** about the Royals is basically that the Royal minor league system is almost too good for even an incompetant GM to screw up. (Maybe we'll find a way.)

As for before now, going back 15 years, we briefly ascended to #9 I believe, but we've mostly been in the crapper in all farm rankings. You cant win by producing a Beltran or a Damon every few years and almost nothing else, our drafting has been laughably bad.

We also forgot to mention that one-fourth (6 players) of Team USA competing in South America this Fall were Royal minor leaguers. No team had ever been represented by more than 3 before this year. That is ridiculous.

Not directly Royals' related, but pretty interesting:

Cliff Lee-S- Rangers Dec. 13 - 9:54 pm et

According to Jack Curry of YES Network, "there is a belief" that Cliff Lee is going to the Phillies.
Now wouldn't that be something? Of course, Curry also mentions that if Lee picks the Phillies, it will be for "a lot" less money than the Yankees offered. The Yankees usually get their man, but remember that Greg Maddux turned them down for less money in the past. Lee reportedly enjoyed his time in Philadelphia and his return would give the Phillies one of the most formidable starting rotations in recent memory. Stay tuned.

Yikes. That might be even more frightening than going to the Yankees. I'd still be surprised if that happened.

All they would need would be a solid guy who knows he's a #5. Brian Bannister?

In all seriousness, that's just sick.

Other than Damon and Beltran, can you name a "home-grown" player they've traded away that turned into a good quality major league player?

The return was terrible.
