2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

That's a fair argument. If the guy was a better Catcher, I would still rather get 125 games behind the plate and 20-25 at DH for 10 years than a LF for 12 years.

Being that he isn't a standout behind the plate and that he has the potential to be an above-average RF, that shifts the discussion towards making the move. I still have a hard time caring about a player's production 10+years from now. Too many things can happen between now and 2022.

No, if Myers has the potential to be a legendary triple-crown threat, I want him to play 158+ games a year. His defense sucks behind the plate anyway, he's destined for RF.

I'm addressing the chicken little worry of "God, why should I care, the Royals will just sell everyone off in a few years anyway, you all are stupid for even caring, etc etc etc" concerns.

edit: catchers dont usually DH much on their day off. If Myers is a catcher, we basically lose him for a good 30+ games/year before we even start talking about injuries. No thanks.

My whole point is that Myers is SO good - I mean, people are talking him as a batting champion, potential triple crown type - I think you can project him as one of the guys that you target for resigning (like the Twins did with Mauer and Morneau). I'd rather that guy be someone who gives me 150 games a year for 15 years of prime prod than a guy who gives 130 for 10.

They'll be able to resign 2-3 of these guys if they're willing to spend $80-90 million on payroll.

Prospects being as crazily unpredictable as they are, watch Myers become merely "OK" and Moose become the next Barry Bonds with a gold glove at 3B for all we know.

Still, its fun to debate, speculate, and dream. Until this year, we've had no logical reason at all to dream without the use of drugs or alchohol for a very long time...

No, but I'm pretty sure I've seen some crazy optimism in previous years on this board. Whats your poison when you were trying to send yourself into a baseball-optimism haze? I prefer Jeremiah Weed 100-proof bourbon or white wine.

Similar spirits (pun intended): Maker's, Shiraz, Boulevard (Wheat or Single Wide IPA). And loves me a pineapple margarita when it gets particularly warm.

You know, now that the farm system is so ridiculously deep, if we trade our top 20 prospects for 4 stud players a piece in low-A and rookie ball... we'll have the best top 80 baseball has ever seen. Come 2017, we will go 132-30.

Apparently one of the reasons the Yankees weren't interested in Zack is they'd tried to move on him last season, and Zack didn't want to go there. Also, Zack would've blocked any move to Toronto. And we already knew DC was out.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/N...t-close-122010

Quote:
The Yankees had targeted Greinke in the past, inquiring about him several times and making a strong push for him last July, according to one source. But at that time, Greinke could block deals to 20 clubs, including the Yankees, and did not want to leave the Royals.

• The Blue Jays never had a shot at Greinke; they, too, were on his no-trade list, and the pitcher was not interested in playing for Toronto.

The Royals liked the Jays’ prospects, but the package they received from the Brewers included players who were closer to the majors.

The Jays could have offered shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, center fielder Anthony Gose, a catcher such as J.P. Arencibia or Travis D’Arnaud and a young pitcher.

Hechavarria, 21, is 2-1/2 years younger than Alcides Escobar but has yet to play above Double A and is more expensive — he is entering the second year of a four-year, $10 million contract. Gose has yet to play above Class A and is not as good a bet in the short term as Lorenzo Cain.

• The Nationals expressed a willingness to put together a package that would have brought them Greinke, but they never reached agreement on an actual trade before the pitcher vetoed the idea of going to Washington.

The Royals wanted a package that included some, but not all, of the following players: Right-handed starter Jordan Zimmermann, right-handed reliever Drew Storen, infielder Danny Espinosa, catcher Derek Norris and outfielder Eury Perez.

• The Royals, rather predictably, received several trade inquiries on closer Joakim Soria shortly after trading Greinke.

But Soria, who will earn just $4 million next season, remains quite affordable and will not be moved anytime soon.

The Royals hold club options on Soria for $6 million in 2012, $8 million in ’13 and $8.75 million in ’14.

Soria, unlike Greinke, also wants to stay in Kansas City. He is an example of excellence to the team’s younger players. And the Royals, who intend to contend as soon as ’12, ultimately will need a ninth-inning anchor.

Fine. The way it worked out was close to ideal, the only thing that would have been better was if he went to Washington or Atlanta since we probably wouldn't have to see him again for another 3 years.

Zach Miner-R- Royals Dec. 31 - 10:42 am et

Royals signed RHP Zach Miner to a minor league contract.
Miner was non-tendered by the Tigers earlier this month. He missed all of the 2010 season following Tommy John surgery and posted an ugly 4.29 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 92 1/3 innings in 2009. He is probably going to open the 2011 season in the starting rotation at Triple-A Omaha.

The Spring Training Non-Roster Invitees have been announced.

Among others who dont have much of a chance, the Royals are going to let our big 4 lefties (Duffy, Dwyer, Lamb, Montgomery), Giavotella, Hosmer, and Moustakas work out with the Royals. (Crow is already on the 40-man roster)

Realistically, only Duffy and Moustakas has a shot at the opening day roster, perhaps neither of them. Moustakas is probably ready, but I'll be very surprised if he comes up earlier than May, because we only have to delay him a couple weeks to get another year out of him. (If he's on the opening day roster, Moose is a free agent in 2017. If we wait until May or June, he's a free agent in 2018). If there's no doubt at all then what the hell, just bring him up now, but if there is any doubt after spring training then another month in AAA wont hurt him.

http://www.kansascity.com/2011/01/03...ng-royals.html

Quote:
“This is something each and every one of them has earned based on how they performed last year,” general manager Dayton Moore said.

And while it remains unclear how many have a legitimate chance to make the club — Moore has stated numerous times that he will not rush players, nor put limitations on them — that hasn’t kept him from imploring all of them to come ready to compete for a spot on this year’s big-league roster.

“I want every player to come to spring training with the expectations of going north with our team,” Moore said. “We’ll look at our players, be open-minded with them and evaluate them on a day-to-day basis.”
