2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

Here's cabletech94's captain obvious opinion:

One year from today, we will not be hearing Kyle Farnsworth associated with the Kansas City Royals.
Also, on a smaller odds scale, not so much about Trey Hillman either.

I understand that Trey is probably stuck with Farnsworth and has to project some sort of nice "company line". Fine, but there's a lot of ways to do that. First you have to acknowledge that Farnsworth is not having a great spring. Throw in the word "challenging", talk about how he's working on perfecting a new pitch rather than acting like this is a regular season game. From there, pivot to the season and use words like "we are optimistic that", and throw the words "we hope" 2 or 3 times. Then bring the answer to the question to a merciful end (you obviously do not volunteer to discuss Farnsworth, this has to be an answer to a question), and change the subject to how swell Greinke is doing.

There's a ton of ways to answer the Farnsworth question in a positive way without looking like a moron. Talking about how pleased you are with Farnsworth and that he'll be pitching no matter what (without some sort of caveat, like he's practicing a new pitch without worrying about the record) makes you look clueless.
I think we all know that Hillman is clueless already, but this is just the icing on the cake.

Got a $50 bet with my dad that the royals will finish within 10 games of .500 this year.

Meh, who knows... They may surprise me this year.

The division is so utterly bad, that this isn't a crazy bet. If we get another couple pitchers to step up just a little bit this year and if the offense shows SOME kind of life, there's your 72 wins.

Can Grienke and Soria pitch effectively every day? I really hope so.....

And I just laugh at every game the Royals have had this spring where they make this mad, 7 run dash to tie/take the lead. I just don't see where the offense is going to come from with this lineup of slappys. We have NO power in this lineup (and when I say power, I mean a guy who is a legit threat to hit 30+ HRs and 110+ RBIs). Butler is great with his doubles, but we need more than that.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. However, some "experts" have the Indians as a dark horse this year.

I'm guessing those "experts" had to go to the rock-paper-scissor/throw some darts analysis when it came to the AL Central this year.

Is 10 games of .500 going to be 72 wins? Or 76-86?

They'll have a better record than last year if we can actually find someone to pitch in the 7th and 8th, especially the 8th. Even with a bad offense.

If the Royals don't lose 100 games or more I'll be shocked.

Why?

The offense is worse, and so is the starting pitching--Meche is hurt(ing) and it's asking too much for Greinke to repeat '09, though he'll certainly be a very solid #1.

I could care less if the division is weak because the Royals are, arguably, the worst team in MLB.

No doubt. The division was weak last year and they lost 97.

Well, don't believe me. It's hard to lose 97 games. But maybe we'll do it again. But if we find someone to bridge the gap to Soria we'll be a better team, enough to win 70-75 games.

But who knows, Soria could get hurt, Butler could get hurt, 1000 different things could happen.
