2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

What happened to Moore's philosophy about letting players "experience success at all levels"?

I have real doubts about the wisdom of calling up Moose. Cup of coffee in Sept. if he continues to rake and is quickly promoted to AAA? Ok. Sounds smart. Then, let him go to Spring Training in '11 with a chance to win a starting spot. But give him absolutely nothing.

interesting article by Schaum about Moose...wonder if this is what he is hinting about
Well this -- "The Royals would be bringing a guy up that would instantly ignite a fan base and receive national talk" -- seems to be the big giveaway.

It's Moose to the Show.

Wow. So what are the two other moves that are needed to make it happen? Callaspo off 3B to ... DH? Meaning Guillen exits? Or does Callaspo get traded? Surely he wouldn't go back to 2B.

I must say, I have serious reservations about bringing Moose up now (i.e., within the next week or two).

Callaspo to DH, trade or DFA (sure deep-pockets Glass would love this option) Guillen.

Dude has swung the bat pretty well this year, but he's dead weight. Start playing for the future.

Definitely early to call up Moose, in my opinion... I'd like to see them give him another month at Class AA, then the month of June in Wichita. If he goes to Wichita and keeps up the high performance, call him up post-All Star Break.

Still brings him up early to generate some hope and etc (can you imagine how it would be received to promote this kid while cutting say... Jose Guillen), but also gives him a little more time to establish himself at the minor league level.

The other benefit (this is mostly a joke)... maybe while he's at Class AAA, his baseball-leader-Jesus skills can give that worthless POS Alex Gordon the kick in the pants he needs and deserves.

On the other front... I wonder what kind of return could be received for a package of Callaspo and DeJesus. Two young, cheap players who would be GREAT in the bottom of a good lineup (well, Callaspo at least. DeJesus would probably struggle to do anything but lead off).

Agreed on Guillen. But if Moose is at 3B and Callaspo's at DH, where' does that leave Kila? Ned just said that Kila's "a big part of the future."

How about DFA Guillen, trade Pods and DeJesus, put Moose at 3B, Callaspo in LF, Gordon in RF and Kila at DH?

So you're suggesting that we try to assemble the slowest outfield of all time?

That's why you bring up Derrick Robinson to cover all the ground between them.

I think he could bring a pretty decent prospect if we're willing to eat the rest of his contract.

If we're not willing to do this, then Guillen is worth a bag of balls.

With our pitching staff, the value of a bag of balls cannot be overstated.

Here's a random blueprint thrown together … I think you really need to commit to young guys for the rest of the year and focus on building for 2012 and 2013.

Trade Guillen. Eat part of the contract. Get a decent (B-level/solid major league starter) prospect back.

Trade DeJesus. Get a good (A/B) reliever back.

And here's the thing that would be really bold... really crazy... but something that I think might really set things up for 2012.

First, let's be honest: The chances of resigning Zack Greinke are about nil. He's gone after 2012 (and possibly mid-year next year if the Royals trade). So … why not be REALLY proactive. Trade him now, get max value for him.

I'd knock on the Devil Rays door. They have a deep farm system, and a great team that could become a World Series contender with a TRUE No. 1 pitcher. Think about Greinke pitching with a GREAT defense behind him...

In return, I think, for a true No. 1 with two years left on a reasonable contract, you can get something to the effect of: Reid Brignac, Wade Davis and Jeremy Hellickson. An elite, A-level prospect (Hellickson) and two guys in Brignac and Davis who are at worst good big-league starters with true star potential.

Add those three to the talent pool in the minor leagues, and then you're really set up to bring up a talented, deep pool of cheap, controllable talent that you can hang on to and play together at the big league level for 4-6 years (worst case).

Two years from now, rotation looks like this:

Davis (potential strong no. 2)
Hellickson (potential ace)
Montgomery (potential ace)
Crow (potential strong no. 2)
Arguelles/Dwyer/Hochevar

Lineup:

C – FA (holding place for Myers)
1B – Butler
2B – Aviles
SS – Brignac
3B – Moose
OF – This pool would include David Lough (a DeJesus clone), Gordon if he does anything (unlikely), Derrick Robinsons, and whatever you can pick up through FA or in trade returns.
DH – Hosmer

Bench would include Callaspo, and Ka'ahuie.

It's a radical move, and I would miss Greinke... but I can deal with that if I'm confident the return would lead to long-term success.

that would be bad ass if we traded grienke. It would show we don't care about marketing we care about winning.
