2010 Kansas City Royals Repository thread

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth, me and atleast 5 others will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

Plus, freeing up all that money would allow us to extend Kendall's contract.

DeJesus is the only one who concerns me... he always has. I always was afraid of him turning into the next Damon... he won't because he doesn't run as well. But I could totally see him going to Cincinnati in that park and being a .315, 20-25 HR guy who plays solid D.

If we can actually get something for Aviles then pull the trigger now. There is nothing that Aviles does that Johnny Giavotella isn't going to do (albeit in a year, at least).

I'd rather keep Callaspo than Aviles. I think Callaspo is legitimately a good contact hitter, but I don't think Aviles is going to keep it up. Could be wrong though. Anything you can get for Aviles is probably good.

Royals haven't decided on Yost's future

By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com

KANSAS CITY -- Ned Yost likes managing the Royals. General manager Dayton Moore likes the job that Yost has done.
So what's the possibility of Yost being brought back to manage the club in 2011? Answer: Nothing has been done yet.

"When the time's right, we'll get there," Yost said Monday. "I don't worry about it. I focus on my task at hand -- that's Chicago and helping these guys win a ballgame today. In due time, and when the time's right, I'm sure that'll all get taken care of."

Moore was asked if there was any time frame for a decision on Yost, who was hired on May 14 to replace Trey Hillman for the rest of the season.

"We'll see," Moore said. "I can't really comment on it now for a lot of reasons."

Yost took a 12-23 club and had it playing at a near-.500 pace, 20-21, going into Monday night's game against the White Sox.

"We're very pleased with the direction of our team, and we'll just make the decision at the appropriate time," Moore said. "I think he's done a terrific job. He's brought a renewed energy and a renewed expectation level to our team and our organization."

Yost, who managed the Brewers from 2003-08, is a happy camper.

"I can't think of one drawback. I love the city; I love the stadium; I love watching these kids; I love the front office," Yost said. "I love everything about it."

Yost was a coach for 12 years on Bobby Cox's staff in Atlanta, and his name has come up as a possible candidate to succeed Cox in the Braves' job when he steps down after this season. Moore was asked if that might hasten the Royals' decision.

"Not necessarily," Moore said. "We've got to be concerned with what we do and focus on what we do here. It's challenging enough to manage through your own situation, let alone someone else's."
I'd sign the guy ASAP. Hell of a lot better than any manager we've had here in the last decade.

Guillen with another rant

Quote:
Quotes of note:

"This organization when I came here, it was not what I thought it was going to be, The atmosphere. I was expecting a lot of fire and winning attitude. And it wasn't any of that. None of that. I tried to say some things and do some things to change the atmosphere and then people went 'Oh, here goes Jose Guillen again.' But, hey, I don't like to babysit guys. You try to tell young guys some things, they get their feelings hurt. That's Little League stuff."

"Fundamentally, this is one of the worst teams in all of baseball. This is true, I've been here for three years. I know everything that's going on . We're one of the worst teams fundamentally. Why do we get 14 or 15 hits and we score one or two runs. How does that happen? Lack of concentration. Lack of being smart. Players think it's all about hitting home runs. Drive in runs. That's what will get them paid instead of moving the runner or getting the guy to second. I just don't see that respect for the game, moving the runners. The team I really admire is the Minnesota Twins. They do that so well. I love when we play them because that's what I want our guys to see. They (the Twins) are the smartest team in all of baseball. Them and the Angels. They do all the little things so well." (no word on how playing a guy in RF who can barely get around effects fundamentals)

"Respect for the game has been lost. That pisses me off. When you get older, you like to be around guys with winning attitudes and winning atmospheres."

If only someone with credibility would say something, instead of a guy who is auditioning for a minor league managerial job after his retirement.
Can't say i disagree but i'm sure his teammates just love him even more now.

Is hitting the cut-off man considered part of "fundamental baseball"?

Also, Guillen, you silly sumbitch, it's not too ****ing hard to understand why you're scoring 3 runs on 10+ hits; this team has no power.

While we're on the subject of power, it's impressive that your slugging percentage actually went DOWN over the course of your 21 game hitting streak.

Coming from a guy making a ton of money, the most on the team and he has little power.

Why the hell would Guillen expect a "winning attitude" here?
