My experience in seeing a World Championship won live.
The phrase "experience of a lifetime" gets used too much to describe an event in someone’s life but in this case it definitely applies.
My friggin knees are sore from jumping up and down on concrete all night like we were Duke Cameron crazies.I've already had a bunch of people call or email me saying that they spotted me on TV at the end of the game so it must have been me. The electricity in the ball park was amazing. These were hard core fans that had waited 24 years for another title and were one game away. There were thousands and thousands of people outside in the closed off streets just wanting to be close to the action and be a part of history. That only added to the moment. I've been a season ticket holder of the Chiefs since the Montana days and the Cardinals stadium was as loud as Arrowhead was after a DT KC strip on a QB in the mid 90's. My ears were ringing. It was as loud as Arrowhead has ever been and it was like that the whole game. Before the game fans are high fiving each other, complete strangers stopping and talking and telling their personal stories of how they were Cardinal fans and their family’s history with the Cardinals. Sharing stories their Grandpa told them about the 1925 WS etc. They would have a little bad of dirt with them from the pitching mound of the 1982 final game when the fans stormed the field, tickets stuns from the 1946 WS that Stan "The Man" signed for luck etc. Tickets were going for $600.00 for standing room only. $1,000 for nosebleeds and $2,500 - $10,000 for the lower level but even at those prices there was now way I was selling my ticket. Weaver came out to warm up before the game and the crowd starting chanting Weaver, Weaver, Weaver as he was jogging out to the fence and he gave the crowd the fist pump like he was confident and was going to get it done, We were impressed in our section with his confidence. One of my favorite moments of the post game celebration (well besides all the ladies hanging out their car windows as they drive by and flashing the crowd their Bobbies) was at about 12:30 pm at night. Games had been over for a couple of hours. There are probably about 10,000 people in the stadium and Weaver comes out of the dugout and makes a victory lap around the stadium high fiving people lined up along the field. When Stan "The Man" made his appearance in the pregame that was as loud as I have ever heard a stadium. He doesn't make it to games very often because he's getting really old so it was pretty special to see him at a game again.Everyone put their towels on the back of our heads to hang down like we have mullets in honor of Billy Ray Cyrus. As I said it was a very festive atmosphere. The whole game everyone was on pins and needles because of our more recent history of blowing WS leads. But after we took the lead we knew this was going to be our night. Did you guys hear the crowd chanting Weaver, Weaver etc? We started counting it down in our section 6 more outs, 5 more outs, just one more strike etc.How can you describe the feeling of elation and pure joy when Wainright struck out the last batter? Everyone is high fiving, hugging each other and yelling at the top of their lungs while the players are mobbing each other and the fireworks are going off. I have no voice today. That was the loudest moment I’ve ever experience ever and I’ve been to Heavy Metal concerts in the 80’s. Hopefully my voice will recover in time for the Chiefs game tomorrow. To hug and share that championship moment with my son will be an experience that will last long after I’m gone. It was kind of surreal because we weren’t suppose to he here but because of the rain out and luck we were. We were all aware of how lucky we were to be able to experience this moment. To cherish this moment in time. After the game and all the ceremonies were done and people started filing out into the streets to celebrate the Cardinals opened up the stadium gates and let the crowd go in and out of the stadium at will. They were showing the locker room and the champagne showers and interviews on the big screen inside the stadium. There were people crying tears of happiness all over the place. Me and my son would go out into the street for a while and then go back into the stadium so we could experience both parts of the celebration. As far as I know there was no looting, vandalism etc. People were very proud of that. There was a lot of drinking, yelling and car horn honking but no cars were set on fire.It was a delirious madhouse in downtown St. Louis after the game but I never felt it was out of control of any danger to my son. When we left downtown we were beside the Detroit Tiger buses that had the players in them stuck in traffic. As we went along the crowd would applaud the players in the buses and tell them good job and some would stick the heads out of the buses and say thanks or stick an arm outside and give the thumbs up sign to the crowd.I’m still on this adrelene rush today. I’m still in awe that I was able to experience something like that personally and then to be able to experience that with my son……Priceless. Last edited by BigRedChief; 01-06-2009 at 08:06 AM.. |

Congratulations, man. You're a true fan, and you deserved to experience something like that.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Should have been me, though. Dammit, rain, dammit. Not bitter though, I bet it was experience of a lifetime, I had a blast thursday night there. I'm sure the clincher was triple the excitement. |

Yeah, I saw you too.
I saw another friend during game 4. Besides Superfans, I've never seen anybody I knew at a televised sporting event so I thought it was cool that I saw 2 in back to back nights. |

For you to experience this with your son, is an unreal memory that will be cherished forever. Your great grandkids, the 7th generation Cardinals fans will hear about the 2006 series and live it vicariously through DVD and the memories... Cool deal man, Congrats. I hate the ****ing Cardinals, but Im glad you had an extraordinary time, and Im happy your team won. |

I live with a big Cards fan. Some of these are from our place and some are from the bar he was at when they actually won it.
