Fed up with Cartoon Network and other networks
I'm freaking pissed!
I just had to deal with an upset 3 year old and an older one full of questions. Why? Because Cartoon network just aired a spot for nip tuck at 9:30am on Sunday morning while they are watching Tom and Jerry's Nutcracker Holiday Special. WTF?!?! What the hell is wrong with these people. It's bad enough that Adult Swim is based on east coast time, so I have to make sure the kids don't have Cartoon Network on before 7am because they might see spots for Blood+, Metalocalypse, or something else along those lines. It's just like CBS showing all the CSI spots during football games. I have to keep a finger on the remote at all times unless I want my 3 year old introduced to pictures of dead bodies, strong sexual innuendo, and backdrops of flowing blood and gore stained weapons. I'm no big fan of censorship, but seriously can't we just have something that makes sure commercials are appropriate for the age range of a shows target audience? The V chip stuff only blocks based on program content, but they can shove anything they want down the pipe for a commerical at any time. |

I can sympathize, but you will NEVER see the TV industry support anything that disrupts paid advertisers, nor advertising their own shows.

My recommendation to you is to issue a letter to the parent company of Cartoon Network. State the situation. Tell them that it is unacceptable and that you are strongly considering blocking the channel completely.
They can charge more dollars to advertising if they have high viewership. If their viewership falls, they lose money. It probably won't help, but that is likely the best you can do to rectify the problem. |

Isn't pro football a little too violent for your kids anyway?

The level of gore in shows like CSI and Bones is amazing - it would have drawn an R rating in movies not long ago. And yes, the spots can be a bit much.
The ones that really bother me, though, are the boner drugs that are endlessly broadcast during games and all other kinds of shows that kids watch. I don't have kids, but I wouldn't want to have to explain what "erectile dysfunction" is to a five-year-old while watching a friggin baseball game. That crap should not be allowed. |

As far as the TV shows and movies, sex sells unfortunately and this society thinks its OK to **** anything that moves. I pretty much have my finger on the remote at all times during commercials.

I have a 3 year old also and I just Tivo a bunch of shows off of Noggin. Noggin doesn't have any commercials. Which help helps prevent the "Daddy I want that." whenever they advertise a toy. Every once in a while my wife ot I will accidentally select a show off of a station that has commercials and I delete them off my Tivo immediately.

but in your own pre-screened videos.... don't depend on Cartoon network to babysit your kids.

Heh - Chiefsplanet never disappoints. I decide to let my kids watch a Tom and Jerry Holiday special and somehow I'm guilty of "depending on Cartoon Network to babysit my kids."
