To Blitz or not to Blitz

So, Peton Manning is obviously not Vick, he's much, much smarter. So, Do we blitz him like we did Vick or not? I say no because Peyton picks that up better than any QB in the league and will pick you apart with the hot read. Vick was too dumb to see that. But, I do think Gun will pick some good timing blitzes and if Peyton gets off the pass, he needs to get hammered. By the way, everyone going to the game, including me, get LOUD. I don't care if it didn't work last January, it sure as hell doesn't hurt and once you get Peyton's goofy ass picked off a couple times or put him in the grass, he starts blaming the receviers or the linemen. IT'S ON

It seems to me that they should be having people jumping in and out of the line on almost every play, faking a blitz. Then actually blitz on about every tenth play. Get Manning and his receivers out of sync on their blitz reads and nail him once in a while. Whatever, if the front four can't get some consistent pressure we've got problems.

I think that I would settle for watching Gunther plunger rape him.

I would send one guy at Manning on every play. Have him disregard play action fakes and just go right for Manning.

A lot of it depends on how well the front four play. If we can get pressure on Manning with the down linemen, we won't have to blitz as much. Or something.........

Yeah, and it should be a different guy every play. It has to be disguised.. keep him guessing. That's something we couldn't do at ALL last time.

Good idea. We already know Gunther is good at this. Last week on Bartee's sack, he lined up as if he was going to cover the receiver in front of him. He gave away no indication that he was going to blitz.

I am just glad we get to face a statue QB for once. Vick and Leftwich running around was annoying.

If those refs screw us on one of those in the grasp calls this week I'm going to be pissed.

And f it if they get a big play and score, that will just mean our O gets back out ther to control the clock and rests our D so they can keep blitzing.

I think Peyton thrives to play against the blitz. He studies film more than most of us have studied the Paris Hilton video. He also loves to audible.
I think the key with him is tight coverage on his receivers and strong penetration by our down linemen.

I agree completely... but I don't know that they can consistantly get it done. I hope they can, but the odd blitz from an unexpected angle could help, as long as they don't tip their hand before the snap.*

* That's key.

He definitely thrives on the blitz. So, a good disguise is mandatory. How about our corners playing very phsyical off the line. Bartee and Warfield definetely can fit that mold.
