Lawn Mowers (Honda)

It's maybe a topic that should have been posted towards the beginning of summer but I finally got around to buying a new one and now I'm suffering a bit of buyer's remorse as I often do on more expensive purchases (the Internet sometimes works against me :P).

Anyone own a Honda or have much experience with their lawn mowers? I picked up a HRR216TDA model at the local Home Depot because of some rave reviews from what seemed to be a very knowledgeable employee. I'm just curious if anyone has any input.

I've read that Honda makes a steel key that connects to the crank shaft and if your blades come into contact with something too concrete, you can cause serious damage...that and the fact that some of the covers on the parts of the machine are made out of softer metals and can dent fairly easily and cause a loss of compression. (these explaination are coming from a not-so-knowledgeable engine guy, mind you)

Oh well...just thought I'd bug you all with my worries...heh.

Thanks.

Thanks for the input...I'm hoping this thing lasts a very long time for the price I paid for it.

The fiance isn't too pleased as usual but she isn't the one mowing.

I used to work at a Sears Parts and Repair as a parts guy for 3yrs. The techs always claimed that the Honda mowers(Craftsman or not) were overpriced and that they had nothing but trouble with the engines. I am not sure about your model or if any improvements were made since I left 6 months ago.

Keep in mind my opinion of Sears techs is not the highest.

I have a Craftsman with a Honda engine. I know little about engines and mowers in general, but all of them I've had have always had a shear pin to protect the motor incase of an abrupt strike like you describe.

I've had mine since the beginning of the summer and it's done well. haven't hit anything to cause a problem, but that's not to say I couldn't sometime in the future. I'll let you know if I do!

We just bought a Yard Man self-propelled with the electric start. It was on sale, had another 10% off, and the box was mis-priced. Otherwise, I don't know what we would have bought. It was around $210 with tax, so not too bad.

Is this the 650 $ honda lawnmower that consumer reports ranked no. 1 ? If it is then I might be getting one. I still don't understand the problem mentioned by the starting thread. Why not just take it in to have a look under the hood ? I don't know how a mower could be that easily wrecked by chipping some concrete or tree roots. Hell , everyone does that !
