CPIggy 2.1.0 Released

*** Curent users please read installation instructions ***

2007-11-04: CPIggy 2.1.0 has been released tonight.

CPIggy is a fully-functional ignore script for use on this BB.  As many of you know it's been a work in progress for several weeks.  Tonight it reaches what I consider "feature complete" and the only major bug has been corrected.  So tonight I'm releasing it as 2.0.0.

Having trouble? Want to help? There is a tech support/issue tracking thread in the Media Center forum:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showt...ghlight=cpiggy

Features:

* Places a new item in the ChiefsPlanet main menu to launch it's configuration dialog
* Maintains a list of ignored users and performs the following for them:
  * Removes threads started by them from forum listings
  * Hides posts by them
  * Hides quotes by them in other people's posts
  * Removes comments from them in your rep screen
* Places an icon beside user names in threads that will add them to your iggy list
* Will optionally remove the two links to the Washington DC forum
* Supports update checking (both manual and automatic daily checks)
* Blocks threads based on a keyword list

Upgrading from Previous Versions:

1. Open your CPIggy control panel and copy down your iggy list
2. Go to Tools->Greasemonkey->Manage User Scripts
3. Click the CPIggy version you currently have installed
4. Check the box that says "Also uninstall associated preferences"
5. Click the Uninstall button
6. Install 2.0.0 from this link: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/12975.user.js
7. Reload any open ChiefsPlanet pages
8. Replace your iggy list

Installing for the first time:

1. Install Greasemonkey from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748
2. Restart Firefox
3. Click this link: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/12975.user.js
4. Click the "Install this script" button on the right
5. Choose "Install" from the dialog that pops up
6. Refresh the CP page
7. Click the new "CPIggy" menu option on the ChiefsPlanet main menu
8. Add users to the Ignore Users list
9. Enjoy a CP experience free from those users that just won't get banned

A Final Word (for now):

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support.  I was frankly a little surprised at how well this project was received.  There are several other features (like checking the first post of each thread and making determinations of a "spam" type score) that would be great but are simply too costly to do from the outside looking in.  If anyone has some ideas for handling that or any other features please PM me, the source code is in a Subversion repository and I would happily accept patches.  If someone is contributing I'm willing to give them write access to the repository as well.

So what's next?  Well, I'm still looking into busting a cap into that POS editor we have on here.  Due to the high volume of code that would be required and the need for a significant number of binary files it's not really feasible as a Greasemonkey script.  However, it is prime for a Firefox plugin.  On this one I don't believe it will be ChiefsPlanet specific.  I'm looking at something more generic that you could point at any  text area on any website and get a better editor.  I'll keep you informed on how that's going.

Again, thanks to everyone for using CPIggy and making my efforts worthwhile.

Great job, Simplex.

Someone should contact htismaqe, jspchief and others who have left due to the dipshittery and get them back here.

Simplex - If we get a few people giving this the thumbs up I'd like to add this to our FAQ, or somewhere similar, if that is cool with you.

I'm just disappointed the only way to get new features on this site is through the users, as God forbid we ever get off a 3 year old beta version of this software.

I'd be happy to have it added to the FAQ. The reason I wrote it was so that we don't lose more quality posters like Gaz, htismaqe, and jspchief. Losing quality posts due to rampant dumbassery is not tolerable and hopefully this can stop some of that.

I've released the script under the BSD license, so anyone is welcome to use it anywhere.

Reminds me of a guy who I used to work with, week after week of, "That sounds like a good idea, we will look into that".

I found a problem with the old version, and I don't know if it was addressed.

Say you want to block someone with a name with a space in it....

say like "DaKCman AP" you put your usernames with a space in there, and I assume it looks for "DaKCMan" and "AP", because the person didn't go away.

any thoughts?

if you update to version 2.0 the username space bug is fixed.
