Nick rips Chan Gailey to pieces
Yay, Herm is blameless!
http://kan.scout.com/2/805156.html Every single Chiefs fan in Kansas City, as well as the entire New York defense, knew what was going to happen when the Chiefs got the ball with a three-point lead with less than five minutes to go in Sunday’s game. Predictably, KC’s offense pounded the ball up the middle three times and punted. Chan Gailey, who has done a less than stellar job of attacking opponent’s weaknesses this year, negated a solid offensive effort by going into a shell with the game on the line. Head Coach Herm Edwards should reconsider his offensive coordinator for 2009 - assuming Gailey’s back for another season. I’ve seen all I need from Gailey to conclude that he has no feel for the ebb and flow of a football game. His failure to show confidence in his young quarterback, who practically carried an offense on his back and nearly shocked the Jets in the Meadowlands, set this team back when it appeared they should have earned a much-needed win. Edwards should be disgusted with the lackadaisical and conservative approach from Gailey, the man he deemed worthy as Chiefs’ play-caller this season. Gailey butchered the game in every sense of the word in the fourth quarter. Instead of running three straight times over left guard Brian Waters, he could have called a bootleg if he didn’t feel like throwing. The Chiefs, without Jamaal Charles on the field, didn’t manage a running gain over four yards all day. Despite that, they put the game in the hands of Kolby Smith with time winding down. With a superstar like tight end Tony Gonzalez on the field and two wide receivers who stepped up (Dwayne Bowe and Mark Bradley), Gailey chose the safe path and the Chiefs lost. It wasn’t his only mistake, as he was also conservative early in the second half, when the Chiefs had first and goal at the Jets’ 10-yard line in the third quarter with the game tied at 14. Who calls a quarterback draw on second and goal after barely missing a touchdown on the previous play? When you’re 1-5, you don’t put the ball back into the hands of a quarterback like Brett Favre, no matter if he’s thrown three interceptions. Sunday I lost confidence in Gailey’s ability to call a complete game and no doubt there are also some players on offense scratching their heads. Gailey should be under serious consideration to be replaced after only one season in Kansas City. He came to the Chiefs with a reputation for offensive innovation, but he’s hardly shown that this year. The Chiefs were a better team Sunday than the New York Jets, it’s just too bad the offensive coordinator didn’t believe it. |

Yes, let's rip into the OC who takes orders from Herm. Herm has neutered every single OC he's ever had.
Nick can go **** himself.

You need to quit that gig, Claythan. Associating yourself with a whore like that just makes you look bad.

Why in the hell do you spam the board with that horseshit from WPI? Nobody here gives a rat's ass what that tool thinks.

This is just as stupid as the other thread. We're a bad football team. I don't think we've played particularly well or coached particularly well. But everybody's trying to pin it down to one play or one series to try and find some scapegoat to put a face on their feelings. Saying Gailey, or Herm, or even Carl should be fired for that one series is dumb.
There's no reason to be confident we would've successfully completed a pass there, ran the ball successfully there, there sure as heck isn't any reason to be confident we could've ran the last 5 minutes off the clock, and if we didn't, our special teams failed. And then if we'd given Farve anywhere from 1-5 minutes left, he probably could've taken the team down to get at least a FG. Pinning it on one thing is stupid. |

"We're going to run it up the gut 3 times here with Kolby Smith, who's carried for 1ypc today" "We're going to see if Thigpen, who's played well today, can make a couple of completions and get a few first downs" OF COURSE neither guarantees success, but I don't understand how people couldn't pick the second one every single time. It has nothing to do with the actual outcome, it has to do with giving the players the best chance possible to be successful. I expect incomplete passes, interceptions, dropped passes, missed tackles, stupid penalties, etc. Play calling like that at the end of the game is unacceptable. Would we have won the game otherwise? Who knows, but we weren't going to win running it up the center's ass three times and handing the ball to Brett Favre with three minutes to go, three timeouts, needing to kick a field goal to tie. |

uh, no. Herms fingerprints are all over that last set of plays. It was totally different than the entire game that preceded it. We will probably never know for sure though

And this is why Nick and everyone associated with WPI are hacks. If you think that was Gailey's call, you're smoking something or reeruned.

I don't agree with Nick. Herm is a fraud and a failure.

Look man, I know for now you don't like Herm, and I respect you personally as a writer. But I'll stand by my post because this article shows just how off kilter this publication is.

Nick likes Herm. He's not going to blame him for anything. Ever. It's kinda sad.

why wouldn't Nick write about the D giving up huge plays and why the hell was Patterson covering their best receiver in crunch time?
