Purple Jesus cited for speeding going 109 in a 55

Peterson cited for speeding
Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was cited for speeding over the weekend after police clocked him driving 109 mph on a highway in suburban Minneapolis.

NFC North blog

Seifert ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert writes about all things NFC North in his division blog.

• Blog network:
NFL Nation

Edina police spokeswoman Molly Anderson says Peterson was pulled over just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Peterson was driving his BMW on a state highway in a 55-mph zone. Anderson says he was given a citation and allowed to drive away. She called it a "very routine" traffic stop.

Peterson tells The Associated Press he didn't realize how fast he was going. He said he "got a little speeding ticket" and said he planned to be more careful.

The stop happened the night before Peterson ran for 85 yards and a touchdown in a 36-10 victory over Chicago. He also fumbled twice.

Maybe im wrong, but don't most people get arrested for going that fast or have multiples fines and possible license suspension?

I guarantee you he was driving over 109.....but the cop bumped it down to 109 so it wasn't classified as going "twice the limit".

Actually people in MN were calling Tavaris Jackson "Purple Jesus" before Adrian Peterson or Brett Favre got to the Vikes. So really TJ is the original "Purple Jesus" on the Vikes.

Anything over 100 should be a "go directly to jail card".

BS. Anyone going slow in the fast lane should go to jail. Speeders aren't the problem... it is lack of paying attention. And, typically, those are the morons puttin' along at 55 mph.

I hope this is sarcasm.... while I definitely wish speed limits were higher and people would stay out of the fast lane when they're not passing, I've had cars scream by before (a few times on 71 highway), and it sucks. You're basically a deer in their headlights... it's one thing to get frustrated at people poking along in the fast lane while you want to speed, but the guy was probably going 40mph faster than any other car on the road, and 50-55mph faster than most. Yeah, that's a problem.

He's young, rich, and can do anything in life.
