Former Cardinal Rick Ankiel, 30, is headed to the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Star is reporting.
Ankiel signed a one-year deal for $3.25 million with a mutual option for 2011 worth $6 million.
Ankiel, who started as a pitcher for the Cardinals but transitioned to the outfield after a well-documented loss of control as a pitcher after the 2000 playoffs. He hit .264 with 25 homers in 2008 but dropped to .231 with 11 in 327 at-bats last season.
The Cards have committed to Colby Rasmus in center and didn’t consider re-signing Ankiel.

As a Cards fan, I always liked him and wish him luck in Blue!

Ick. I was really hoping he'd go to a team I don't like.

The guy's a choke artist headcase, hiding his myriad of issues behind a great throwing arm. I'm glad the Cardinals finally cut the cord - they wasted years developing and then redeveloping this clown.
