Sam Acho anyone?

Impressed scouts doing OLB drills was a good player at Texas and I think he could be a good passer as a 3-4 OLB. Very versatile athlete too.

Also from what I've seen he seems to have great discipline vs the run which I feel Tamba lacks at times.

SAM ACHO DE, Texas HT: 6-3 WT: 260

Possesses good overall length for his size and looks a lot longer than his frame would indicate. However, he isn't real compact out of his stance and wastes too much motion when asked to rush the passer. Has a decent first step but not the kind of burst to consistently threaten the edge and lacks the body control to drop his shoulder and flatten out along the corner. Takes too wide of an angle off the snap and consistently allows his pad level to get too high and fails to generate much power on contact. Now, he does use his long arms to fight his way off blocks and can eventually disengage and create a slight surge for himself on the outside. However, he isn't a real quick-twitch athlete once he gains a step and seems to rely more so on his grace and finesse than overall grit as a pass rusher.

Exhibits the body control and length to make his way down the line and fend off blocks in the run game, but isn't real stout at the point of attack when run at. Can be handled at times by the tight end and is routinely sealed from the football.

Impression: I know he's a highly rated prospect, but I just think he's very "blah" as a pass rusher and isn't a guy who I would want setting the edge for me in the run game. Looks more like a reserve defensive lineman to me at this stage.

Acho looked pretty good in the drills. I couldn't find any game highlight clips of him dropping back or in space.

I honestly don't have a clue which college DE/OLB is going to transition the best to an NFL OLB (including Miller).

Miller has elite level pass rushing skills. His first step and pursuit speed are phenomenal. Reminds me of Derrick Thomas in terms of his initial burst, at least at the college level. He's also athletic enough to effectively cover backs and ends. However, it's his pass rushing instincts that are amazing and playing him at the strong side would be a waste.

Robert Quinn has a ton of potential and looks to be a solid 3-4 prospect that could play either side. I doubt he'll be there when the Chiefs draft pick is up though.

As far as instincts go, Herzlich is a stud. He played the strong side OLB spot for BC, and is very effective in the passing game and filling lanes. His strength is back but you have to wonder if the speed will return that will enable him to be truly effective at the next level. You can hide the lack of speed a bit in a 3-4 defense, especially with a guy like Johnson at ILB, but it's still a bit of concern. He's very fluid with his turns and with his feet, which helps him when he's actually on the field.

Ayers didn't do himself any favors during the Combine. I always felt he had a strange lack of muscle definition for a guy that was purported to be "athletic." He ran a slow 40 and didn't look that good in the drills along with some lackluster games in 2010.

Houston and Kerrigan are not linebackers, even though they have good athleticism. They are not very fluid and have way too much bulk to be effective in covering the pass. Shit. Kerrigan is absolutely enormous. I've said it before, but the guy is a Pat Kearney clone. And Houston's legs are tree trunks. They both have a lot of potential as 4-3 edge rushers, but they aren't linebackers.

I'm not sold on Aldon Smith in terms of being a 3-4 linebacker as well rather than a 4-3 defensive end.

Brooks Reed is a possibility as is Tom Keiser, but I don't think that either one is going to give you any more than what we have in Andy Studebaker at this point.

You know, hindsight being 20/20 and all, I wonder what the people around here who were bitching about the Chiefs possibly drafting Aaron Curry in 2009 are thinking about now when we could have had him then and now have a chance to pick a guy like Cameron Jordan, JJ Watt or Cameron Heyward this year.

All I know is that Curry would look pretty freaking good at the strong side linebacker spot in a Chiefs uniform.

Why would we need a passer playing on D?
