Phone comparison questions
My Blackberry is quitting
![]() I am looking at an iPhone or HTC Thunderbolt. I don't really know which to choose. I've looked through the app stores of both Droid and Apple, and they have comparable apps for what I would be looking for. I also read JOhn's thread here. A few specific questions I have
My primary needs are durability, battery life, and signal strength (I live in the ****ing boonies). Has anything changed since JOhn's thread? Is there anything else I should consider other than the typical "APPLE ROCKS"/"**** APPLE" arguments? TIA. |

If you do any web browsing from your phone, I would definitely go Android. If you want the ability to massively customize your phone then go Android.
If you don't care about either of these things then both offer some very nice features that will do everything you need. You can even install battery managers on both phones to suit your style of use. |

Blackberries suck. Way behind in the smartphone race.

Android or Apple would be a major upgrade over Blackberry. Before I got my Droid a yr ago, I had a BB for a week and hated it. I'd go with the Thunderbolt.

I have an iPhone 3, that I've had for about 1.5 years.
I use an Otter case. It is very shock absorbent and somewhat water resistant. Makes the phone somewhat bulky, but for me the protection is worth it. I can get by charging every other day, but I'm not a heavy user. I think the battery life is pretty good. For me the 3G network isn't that fast. Signal strength is pretty good. I once got a connection on top of a mountain five miles from my car. Synchs to Outlook perfectly. I'm happy with my phone, but I'm not very picky. |

You want durability? You could drive your tractor over one of these.

Also, the iPhone normally has a new model in June/July but it looks like this year they are going to wait until September or October (this is all rumor at this point but it's based on sources within the supply chain) Also, if you don't currently use iTunes, the iPhone is a complete pain in the ass. If you do, then its actually easier to sync because you won't need another app to sync your music.. although there are plenty available for Android. My only knock on the Thunderbolt is that it is one generation too early to support NFC payments. Those phones will be coming out this Fall (best guess).. of course the Google/Citi/MasterCard NFC network won't be up and running this year so it really shouldn't matter. Battery life is a tricky one.. the iPhone will probably have better battery life UNLESS you turn off all the extra feature on the Thunderbolt (4G, Flash, etc) the extra functionality comes at a price. But as someone mentioned, you can put a batter manager on the phone to mitigate that. |
