Car Audio Upgrade

I own a 2.5L 2006 VW Jetta and now have some money to put towards the stereo system. It has a factory in dash 6 disk changer and all stock speakers. I want to accomplish 2 things. First off, I would like to see if there is a way to hook up a port to hook up my ipod to it and also to put in a sub and an amp to put some more bass in as well. From what I have read there are adapters you can plug into back of the stereo unit to accomplish both tasks but having problems finding it. I was wondering if anyone with knowledge in car audio could help me out. I dont need enough bass to hear down the street, only to make it sound better than it is...(I would be happy with 1 - 10") and not wanting to fill the trunk with speakers if you know what I mean. I also have a satellite radio hooked up now that I no longer plan to use so that can be scrapped if need be to hook up amp. Any help in this would be great as I am clueless on it all! Thanks

No...not bose unfortunately. and the base is non existant. Worse off I dont think they have any RCA ports in back of the stereo unit but do believe that there is a way to disconnect the Satellite radio and replace with amplifier...

That VW factory radio has some of the vehicle diagnostics run through it; VW radios had it in the late 90's . You better do your homework before making that change. I'm surprised there's no Aux port for your iPod in it, already.

I'm not surprised there's no AUX port, but another option may be to unhook the changer and use that plug to run an AUX port. Your best bet is just to replace the factory stuff and start from scratch. Your factory speakers may not handle being amped very well.

Unhooking the changer is an idea.

Sounds like the current speakers won't, if the guy is wanting to pound the bass.

I yanked out the wiring for the amp in our 97 Jetta, after the guy pulled the amp from the car before selling it to us; heh, the aftermarket radio didn't work. I installed a cheap Audiovox 25 W single CD/radio that had an aux port, using an aftermarket harness kit. This guy just might want to change his speakers and put in an aftermarket radio.

Best bet....you don't have to spend a fortune for what you seem to be after either. Although a nice after market head unit and some nice 6X9's may also develop the bass your after. Use the money you were going to spend on a bass tube or box and buy a nicer head unit and speakers.

The speakers are all built in the doors so limited on space. Found a forum that shows the back of the Stereo unit and they recommend an adapter to set up Aux port. However as you can see in the pics there are no RCA. Was hoping to avoid getting new system as I like the one that is in there now, however will change it if necessary. Apparently in the '06 jetta's, some were made with an aux port that went into the glovebox and others using same connection were made with a light in the glovebox instead.

The satellite is hooked up behind the rear seat on ceiling of trunk and was hoping to get something in there without compromising too much space for our luggage when going on trips..

If you dont want to compromise space, forget about traditional subs.

One option is to buy an amp to soley supply power to a sub. Put the treble all the way up on your factory and your bass all the way down on your factory speakers. The new bass from an additional amp/sub will greatly increase the sound quality. It won't be perfect, but it will be much improved and you won't mess up the diagnostics running through your current set up.
