Obama to Big Bird......**** you

Obama adviser: No plans to take down Big Bird ad despite Sesame request Oct 10, 2012 9:48 AM EDT

The Big Bird ad stays.

Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs said Wednesday he didn't know of any plans to take down the controversial ad featuring the famous feathery star, despite a request by Sesame Workshop.

Gibbs made the comment on NBC's "Today" show, a day after campaign officials said they were reviewing Sesame Workshop's appeal.

The satirical TV ad featured a menacing voiceover warning of Mitt Romney's anti-Big Bird agenda, playing off the Republican nominee's debate claim that he wants to cut funding to PBS.

"Big, yellow, a menace to our economy. Mitt Romney knows it's not Wall Street you have to worry about, it's Sesame Street," the voiceover says. "Mitt Romney, taking on our enemies no matter where they nest."

Sesame Workshop, though, was not on board with the ad.

The organization released a statement Tuesday saying:"Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down."

While the Obama campaign presses forward with the ad, the Romney campaign has accused its rival of making a big election about trivial things.

"These are tough times with real serious issues," Romney told an Iowa crowd Tuesday. "So you have to scratch your head when the president spends the last week talking about Big Bird."

Dear David Axelrod,

Please ignore the request to stop using Big Bird as the central argument in your campaign.

TIA,

Mitt

It would take someone with the reasoning of a 3 year old to want to re-elect this embarrassment. That said it would take the same level of reasoning to think we can trust either party. Romney is the only choice and he is far from a good choice~

I know Literature tends to defend liberalism, but I'm pretty confident he's going to vote for Romney this time around.

Apparently the "logic" behind their continuing to harp on this is that they think the undecideds tend to be less plugged into the mainstream news and such, and get the bulk of their information from entertainment sources.

I'm guessing that this isn't really the public broadcasting demographic, anyway.

I think you have to look at what's happened in the campaign to understand this. They cant run on their record, so they spent the whole campaign demonizing Romney. Then he showed up at the debate and steamrolled Obama. They started getting behind in the polls and switched back to demonization about what a liar he is - only this time it won't work because Romney showed up and looked qualified, knowledgable, honest, and presidential. People know he isn't satan. Their campaign strategy was based upon that.

As Krauthammer pointed out afterward, painting Romney as demonic and evil isn't going to wash with the public because they can see through it. The guy doesn't even drink coffee.

Sesame Street is a welcome distraction that allows them to gather themselves and attempt to reposition their campaign. They'd much rather talk about this nonsense than where the campaign is today or what the poll numbers are doing, or what's going on in the Middle East.
