Final Job Report before Election...171,000 jobs added

Pretty good number and BLS upward revised the prior months as well.

Hiring increased last month, while the unemployment rate ticked higher, according to a report released just four days before the presidential election.

The economy added 171,000 jobs in October, while the unemployment ticked up to 7.9, from 7.8% in September, the Labor Department said Friday.

Economists surveyed by CNNMoney had expected employers to add 125,000 positions in the month and unemployment to inch up to 7.9%.

The number of jobs added in August and September were revised sharply higher, adding a combined 84,000 more jobs that originally reported.

Professional and business services added 51,000 positions, while health care employment rose by 31,000. Retail and leisure and hospitality also boosted payrolls. Manufacturing was little changed and mining lost 9,000 jobs.

That's because you are a reasonable guy.

The best news is this is good for America regardless who is POTUS. We need to get people back to work.

Don't kid yourself. This report isn't going to help Obama. It probably won't have any effect at all.

I think it could have some effect to help people who are left undecided.

If anything, those people will see the unemployment rate going back up to 7.9% and consider it a setback.

Really? I dont see that at all.

171,000 jobs is a pitiful gain. You need to have double that to show significant gains and drop the employment number.

The fact that it ticks up to 7.9% is good for Obama, bad for Romney? Seriously?

Here is one for you:
in 45 months, the total NET jobs added under Obama is 194,000. Dont believe me? Go check out the statistics on the bureau of lab and do some math.

http://www.bls.gov/

Now, taking that info, it will take the economy 9-10 years to recover.

More like this report is awash, but is definitely not a boost to OBama.

He's making fun of the fact that if there's good news it's due to Obama and if it's bad news Bush is to blame.

Nobody cares.

Especially if they live in NJ an NY.

These numbers don't mean sh** anyway when you figure how many jobs are needed just to get back to the 4.5% unemployment rate.

Yeah, but the sentiment of more people entering the workforce is a good thing.

Of course it also underscores that if the workforce was at the same level as when Obama took office the prez would be sitting on double-digit unemployment.

The young peoples unemployment rate went up again for ages 20-24 . They need jobs and this leadership has failed this age group greatly. This age group has had their eyes opened up since getting away from their liberal high school and college teachers. Welcome to the real world youngsters !
